CASE STUDY
Target Audience:
Example 1 - A busy family of five with young children. Both parents have full time jobs while the kids are
in school and in addition to getting the kids to soccer and swimming practice, the parents need to cook,
clean and grocery shop. By doing the shopping online parents can save time and stay home with their
children instead of taking a couple hours out of their evenings to shop for the household.
Example 2 - A young professional who works long hours to nurture and develop their new career. However
with long hours spent in the office driven individuals can forget to nurture their bodies. With this app shop-
pers can fill their carts anywhere and have access to important nutritional information on their commute to
and from work and even when the stores are closed after a long day.

User Goal:
1. The user wants to use the online shopping tool to find all the products they need easily and quickly, and
save time by shopping online from the comfort of their own home and picking up products at their conve-
nience. In addition, filling their cart with past orders to save time on item selection.
2. The user wants to use the online site to find items of good value using coupons, sales and accessing
nutritional information.

The Challenge:
Shopping online can be a great way for shoppers to save time and for stores to promote sales. With the rise
of smart phones comes the opportunity to shop from anywhere at anytime with the use of an easy app.
The Real Canadian Superstore app would allow busy individuals and families to decide what they need
from the comfort of their own homes, at work or on the bus home and pick it up at their convenience.
Because of the immense amount of products offered by The Real Canadian Superstore it can be difficult to
allow individuals to find what they need, quickly and intuitively. The app is intended to add convenience
while presenting the same amount (or more) information that a shopper would have available in a physical
store without overwhelming the user.

The Solution:
Utilizing the investigation of user goals through market research and real-world application to develop
an effective user experience with an easily navigated design. Using the app, users experience a shopping
experience that is faster through quick searches, relevant categories and reusing previous purchases to
fill shopping carts quickly. In addition, users will have access to nutritional information and special sales to
promote app use. This hierarchical and sequential information architecture was developed for user con-
trolled ease of use and polished based on user feedback.

My Role:
I developed a preliminary wireframe to evaluate possible functions and features of the app. I performed
market research to investigate other shopping apps to envision functionality and create functional goals
based on these findings. We further expanded our research through user interviews to create a persona to
understand the motivation and needs of users and establish an expected pathway from opening the app
to checking out. A prototype was developed with functionality based on this research that was used to
produce the final product with the users in mind.
