I. Objectives:

At the end of the teaching-learning process, at least 75% of students with 75%
proficiency level are expected to:
1. Determine the proper arrangement of heavenly bodies in Solar System
2. Identifies the members of the Solar System
3. Describes each member of the Solar System

II. Content and Materials:

A. Topic: Members of the Solar System (Sun and Planets)

B. Reference:
Book of Science and Health for Grade VI

C. Materials: Activity Chart, Illustration of the Solar System, Pictures of Solar System

III. Procedure:

A. Preliminary Activities

1. Daily Routine
a. Prayer
b. Checking of Attendance
c. Checking of Assignment

2. Drill
The students will give the correct answer based on their knowledge.
1. In what planet do we live?
2. How many sun do we have?
3. How many moon do we have?

3. Review
Answer the following question..
Enumerate the 3 Types of rock
Describe the differences of each rock.
B. Developmental Activity
a. Motivation:
Jigsaw Puzzle
The students will go to their respective group to assemble the given puzzle and tell what
they saw.
What shows in the puzzle?

C. Lesson Proper:
The Solar System is a group of planets or celestial bodies that revolves around the sun.
Also, it consist eight planets including Earth.
Sun
Sun is a star at the center of the Solar System
Has a surface temperature of 10,000 degrees and a center temperature of 27,000,000
degrees Fahrenheit.
Mercury
Closest to the sun
Smallest planet
Has no moon
Venus
Second closest planet to the sun
Sixth largest planet
Brightest celestial body besides the moon and sun.
Hottest planet
Has no moon
Earth
3rd from the sun
5th largest planet in the solar system
Only planet that has life
More than 4.5 billion years old
Has one moon, named Luna
Mars
Fourth from the sun
Seventh Largest planet
Only planet whose surface can be seen in detail from the Earth
Reddish in color, the atmosphere of Mars is made of carbon dioxide
Home of the highest mountain in solar system, named Olympus Mons
Has two moons, named Deimos and Phobos
Jupiter
The Fifth planet from the sun
Largest planet in the solar system
Great Red Spot Has Been Around. It is a giant, spinning storm in Jupiter's atmosphere. It
is like a hurricane on Earth, but it is much larger. Jupiter's Great Red Spot is more than
twice the size of Earth
Has 67 moons, including Ganymede the largest moon in Solar system
Saturn
Sixth planet from the sun
Second largest planet
It has a ring, made up of countless ice and rock that revolve its equator
Has 62 moons
Uranus
Seventh planet from the sun
Third largest planet
Known as Giant Ice
Coldest planet with minimum temperature of -224 degree Celsius
1st planet discovered with a telescope
Has 27 moons
Neptune
8th and farthest planet from the sun
Forth largest planet
It has the Strongest winds in the solar system
Has 8 known moons
D. Summary:
Our Solar System is an amazing place. Not only is it home to eight planets, it also hold several
dwarf planets, hundreds of moons, and thousands of stars and asteroids. The eight planets in our Solar
System are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
E. Trivia
Did you know that we have 9 planets in solar system before year 2006?
Pluto is one of the most mysterious and controversial celestial objects in the solar system. The world
was introduced to dwarf planets in 2006, when tiny Pluto was exposed of its planet status and reclassified
as a dwarf planet.
o It must be an object which independently orbits the Sun.
o It must have enough mass that its own gravity pulls it into a roughly spheroidal shape.
o It must be large enough to "dominate" its orbit.
IV. Evaluation:

Read each statement carefully. Choose the letter of the correct answer.

1. This planet is 6th from the sun with 62 moons. It is a second largest planet
a) Neptune
b) Saturn
c) Venus

2. The 5th largest planet in our solar system is 3rd from the sun. It’s more than 4.5 billion years old.
It has one moon, named Luna
a) Earth
b) Mars
c) Venus

3. Select the answer that shows the order of the planets, beginning with the Planet closest to the sun
and ending with the planet farthest from the sun.
a) Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune
b) Mercury, Earth, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune
c) Mercury, Venus, Mars, Earth, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune

4. The Fifth planet from the sun. This planet is the largest in the solar system.
a) Jupiter
b) Mars
c) Saturn

5. The smallest planet in the solar system is also the closest to the sun.
a) Venus
b) Mercury
c) Mars
