introducing a video that about Harriet as the mind capture of the lesson. Then, the teacher will
explain to the students that they will be creating a research project about Harriet Tubman’s life. After
the video, students will be asked to share one detail from the video.
o Once the students have discussed the video, the teacher will divide the students into groups of two or
three where they will be asked to evaluate the same video one more time, and this time come up
with another important detail. Once all the students within their groups agree on their new detail; the
teacher will then separate the groups and address the students as whole group again. The teacher
will list the facts at the board, as students are discussing their thoughts.
o Lastly, each student will be assigned one fact from the list the teacher has created. Then, the students
will create a podcast about Harriet Tubman’s life using recording software. When the students have
finished their podcast, it will be uploaded to the classroom’s website where it is shared with others.

Reflective Practice:
o In order to extend this lesson to a higher LoTi level, the students will have the opportunity to select
another person from the standard listed. Then, as they choose the historical person as a class, the
students will create a study on the person they chose. As well as, identifying the important facts
about this person, and complete a podcast for the classroom website.
