Position Title: Senior Solar Engineer


Office Location: Melbourne

Purpose
This senior engineering role will support Pacific Hydro’s group wide Solar Energy Projects under
development, construction and in operation with specialized expertise in the areas of solar
resource monitoring and assessment, project and component design, generation forecast and
operational performance reviews with special focus on photovoltaic (PV) systems.

Key activities and results areas


 Design and conduct solar meteorological monitoring programs following best industry practise
 Analyse and validate solar resource data from various sources
 Maintain detailed knowledge of solar systems and components, including PV modules,
inverters, racking/tracking systems, balance-of-system (AC and DC), transformers,
switchgear, PV monitoring equipment SCADA etc.
 Undertake preliminary Solar PV System design and design review for utility-scale projects
 Undertake solar project site visits, feasibility studies, energy forecast modeling, risk
assessments and system and component modeling.
 Assess feasibility and suitability of panels and other main components for solar plant systems.
 Undertake solar project performance assessment for operational plants.
 Support or provide construction monitoring, equipment commissioning and testing for Solar
PV projects.
 Acting as subject matter engineering expert within Pacific Hydro for solar energy project

Judgments
 The position will act as subject matter engineering expert within the constraints and directions
of the department with respect to business structures, systems and processes.
 The position includes dealing with people in multiple time zones, and requires flexibility in
work hours to ensure effective communication
 Commitment to meeting business expectations

 Pacific Hydro staff in Australia and overseas business units, including Development
Managers, Operations Managers, Engineers and Plant Operators.
 Finance and commercial teams
 External consultants, suppliers and contractors

Knowledge, experience (including qualifications) and skills


Knowledge and Experience
 Tertiary Qualifications in an Engineering Discipline (Preference Electrical or Renewable
Energy)
 Minimum of 5 years’ experience in solar resource monitoring and assessment, planning,
design, generation forecast, performance, construction and/or operations of large scale
photovoltaic systems.
 Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
 Advanced level knowledge in PVSyst software
 Basic knowledge in uncertainty, probability and statistics preferable
 Experience with civil, structural, or geotechnical aspects of solar PV systems

Skills
 Essential language skills: fluent in English, spoken and written
 Attention to detail, high level evaluation and analysis skills
 Desirable language skills: Spanish and/or Mandarin
