5E Lesson Plan Template

Teacher: Morgan Norsworthy

Date: May 17, 2019

Subject area/course/grade level: Social Studies – 3rd Grade

Materials:

Standards (State and ISTE Standards for Students):

State – Third Grade Social Studies 9: Identify ways to prepare for natural disasters.

ISTE –

1. Empowered Learner - Students leverage technology to take an active role in choosing, achieving and demonstrating
competency in their learning goals, informed by the learning sciences.

2. Knowledge Constructor - Students critically curate a variety of resources using digital tools to construct knowledge,
produce creative artifacts and make meaningful learning experiences for themselves and others.

Objectives:
I can identify and describe natural disasters.

I can describe ways to be responsible during natural disasters.

I can inform others of ways to prepare for natural disasters by creating an emergency supplies list.

Differentiation Strategies: The lesson gives students an opportunity to work independently and with a
group. There is information taught via videos which will benefit the struggling readers. The lesson also
allows students to create a display with no guide. They will be able to display information however they
prefer which will allow students to complete it in a way that best benefits them personally.

ENGAGEMENT:

1. The teacher will introduce the subject by showing a short video clip related to a type of disaster.

2. The students will attend a virtual field trip about severe weather preparedness. It is an adventure
game that the students will play as a class. This will be played on the class interactive flat panel so
all students can participate equally and communicate to find solutions to problems.
