How to Configure the 140 NOC 781 00 IP Routing
Service
Introduction
Background Schneider Electric released two new converged Ethernet head modules in
Information 2012. They both support the EtherNet/IP and Modbus TCP protocols (client
and Purpose and server). The two modules are the:

• Quantum 140 NOC 781 00 four-port Ethernet Control Network head

module with an embedded IP routing service
• Quantum 140 NOC 780 00 four-port Ethernet DIO head module

The IP routing service embedded in the 140 NOC 781 module (when
configured with UNITY Pro V7.0 or later) enables you to manage
communication flow between control- and field-level networks on different
subnets.

This application note provides an application example on how to configure

the 140 NOC 781 00 module’s routing service and connect to several
different networks.

Configuration

Configuring We begin the procedure using Schneider Electric Unity Pro software to
the configure the Modicon Quantum local rack .
140 NOC 781
00 Module in Step 1 Click Start Æ Programs Æ Schneider Electric ÆSoCollaborative
the Local ÆUnity Pro Æ Unity Pro XL .
Rack Note: The name of your Unity Pro package may be different.

Step 2 Select File Æ New to open a New Project dialog box. In this dialog
box, expand the Quantum PLC product list and select the proper
processor. In our example, it is the 140 CPU 651 50 module.

5
Step 3 In the project browser, double click Station Æ Configuration Æ
Local Bus to bring up the rack view.

Double-click the first slot and install a 140 CPS 114 20 power supply.

Step 4 Double-click slot 6 to bring up the New Device menu, which shows
the product catalog.

From the Local Quantum Drop Æ Communication product list,

double-click the 140 NOC 781 module.

6
Step 5 Use the default DTM Alias name:

Step 6 Click OK to insert this device in slot 6.

Step 7 Double-click the 140 NOC 781 00 module on the rack and configure
the module’s input and output size under the Configuration tab.

Click the validate button to validate the edits.

7
Step 8: Click the Update application button to generate the input and output
data structure.

140 NOC 781 Use the DTM to configure the 140 NOC 781 00 module.
00 DTM
Configuration Step 1 Select Tools Æ DTM Browser to open the DTM browser.

Step 2 Double-click Q_NOC78100.

The DTM Configuration screen opens.

8
Step 3 From the DTM Configuration screen, select Channel Properties:

Step 4 Configure the Source IP Address to match the current address of your PC.
The current IP address should be detected and appear in the drop-down field.

Click the Apply button to save the change.

9
Step 5 Select Channel Properties Æ TCP/IP and assign the IP address (10.10.10.20)
and subnet mask (255.255.255.0). This is the area to set up the module’s IP
parameters used for control network.

Step 6 Select Service from the tree and enable the Embedded Router function.

Click Apply.

10
Step 7 Select Service ÆService Port. Select Extended Network in the Service
Port Mode list. The service port (port 1) has three modes: access port, port
mirroring and extended network.

Click Apply.

Step 8 Select Embedded Router from the tree. Assign a Fieldbus Network IP
Address of 192.168.1.20 and a Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0. The fieldbus
network is configured for port 2.

11
Step 8 Assign an Extended Network IP Address of 192.168.10.40 and a Subnet
Mask of 255.255.255.0. The extended network is configured for port 1.
.

Note: The default gateway field is the IP address of the control network IP routing
service. It usually is a customer’s device used to connect the control network to other
networks. In our example, we leave it as default value because this control network
does not connect to any other networks.

Configuring Install the 140 CRP 312 00 in slot 4 of the local rack. Follow essentially the same
the 140 CRP installation procedure as described above for the 140 NOC 78100 module.
312 00
Module in Double-click the 140 CRP 312 00 module on the rack, and configure the module with
the following IP parameters:
the Local
Rack
• IP address A: 192.168.1.30
• Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
• Gateway address: 192.168.1.20

Note: Use the IP address of the 140 NOC 781 00 module’s fieldbus network for the
140CRP31200 module’s gateway address..

12
Configuring Install the 140 NOC 780 00 in slot 5 of the local rack. Follow essentially the same
the 140 NOC installation procedure as described above for the 140 NOC 781 00 module.
780 00 in the
Local Rack In the DTM browser, double-click Q_NOC78000 to open the module’s DTM
configuration screen.

13
Under Channel Properties, select your PC’s IP address as the source IP address.

Select TCP/IP and assign the new 140 NOC 780 00 module the following IP
parameters:

• Module IP address: 192.168.1.10

• Sub-network Mask: 255.255.255.0
• Gateway IP Address: 192.168.1. 20

Note: Use the IP address of the 140 NOC 781 00 module’s fieldbus network for the 140
NOC 780 00 module’s gateway IP address.

14
Click Apply.

Configuring For the PC to communicate with different networks, a proper IP routing path for the
the PC PC needs to be added. We can configure the PC IP parameters as below:

• IP address: 192.168.1. 234

• Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
• Default gateway: 192.168.1.20 (using the fieldbus network’s IP address as
its default gateway IP address)

But most PCs have multiple network cards (interfaces). For example, a laptop may
have a wired Ethernet card and a wireless card. In this kind of situation, the default
gateway configuration does not work. We need to manually add the routing path to
the routing table,as follows:

Step 1 Open a Windows command line.

Step 2 Use the route ADD command in the following format:

route ADD –p Network Destination Network Mask Gateway

In our sample, we want to add the control network 10.10.10.0 into the
routing table. So the command is:

C:\> route ADD –p 10.10.10.0 MASK 255.255.255.0

192.168.1.20

15
Step 3 Add the extended network (192.168.10.0) into the PC’s routing table.

C:\> route ADD –p 192.168.10.0 MASK 255.255.255.0

192.168.1.20

Step 4: Use the route print command to see all routing paths in the PC.

Now the PC can reach all the networks connected to the 140 NOC 781 00 module.
Use ping to test the laptop’s connection to the control network 10.10.10.x x
network; 192.168.1.x network and 192.168.10.x network.
