2. INTEGRATED PROJECT
• In the interest of the better democracy we wish to have a better
voter turnout. India witnessed the elections on 12th of May. Here’s a
project based on elections.
Find out the five electorates with the best voter turnout and the worst.
Collect the data. This data uses a mixture of internet search, newspapers and
TV reports. Use the following information:
• How many electorates are there?
• How many polling booths per electorate?
• How many people per booth?
Draw appropriate graphs for the same. You can also include any other
information regarding the same if you wish to.
• This project integrates Math and Social science. So, in order to
understand the connection between the two subjects and elections,
your project report must include the following also:
• Describe the election process in India.
• Why do we need elections?
• What do you mean by fair and free elections?
• Write the role of election commission of India.
3. WORKSHEETS
• Worksheets for Number Systems, Polynomials and Coordinate
Geometry are uploaded in sms.dpsgs.org. Solve the given worksheets
in practice register.

Circular Motion A uniform circular motion is the motion of an object
travelling at a constant (uniform) speed along a circular path.
Centripetal force is the force required to move a body uniformly in a circle.
This force acts along the radius and towards the centre of the circle. This
direction of motion of the body moving in a circle goes on changing
continuously. According to Newton’s first Law of motion, a body cannot
change its direction of motion by itself. An external force is required for this
purpose which is called as centripetal force.
On account of continuous change in the direction of motion of the body, there
is change in the velocity of the body, and hence it undergoes acceleration,
called centripetal acceleration or radial acceleration.
The expression for centripetal acceleration is a = v²/r = rω²
where v is linear velocity, ω is angular velocity of the body and r is the radius
of the circular path.
As F = m a, therefore,
Centripetal force = mass * centripetal acceleration
i.e. F = mv²/r = mrω²
As stated earlier, the centripetal force acts along the radius and towards the
centre of the circle. This centripetal acceleration/force changes direction
continually as the body moves.
Answer the following questions based on the given concept:
1. A bucket containing water is rotated in a vertical circle. Explain why water
does not fall.
2. What is the source of centripetal force, when an electron revolves around
the nucleus?
3. Find the acceleration of a train at 40 m/s as it goes round a curve of 160 m
in radius.
NOTE
Centripetal does not denote a new and a separate kind of force created by
nature. It is simply the name given to the net force pointing towards the centre
of circular path. It is the vector sum of all the force components pointing
along the radial direction.
