MENTAL HEALTH

Mental health refers to a person’s emotional state of mind, it includes a person’s behaviour, how an individual
acts, feels and thinks. here it is important to know that mental health can be taken as positive too, having a good
mental health usually means people are living the positive side of life but that cannot be true sometimes, a
person can have everything in life but they will still lack peace of mind which is again linked to mental health,
on the other side mental health can also refers to issues which can effect a person’s mind as well as their
physical health. Mental health doesn’t depend on a person’s age it can affect anyone at any stage of life.

MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES

Some common mental health issues are anxiety, depression while self harm and suicidal thoughts can also be
seen if an individual is really facing these problems.

 ANXIETY
Anxiety is a feeling that is experienced by almost everyone specially youth but it becomes a mental health issue
when a person starts to feel anxious all the time or when they stop to have control of it.

 DEPRESSION
It is an emotion during which people find it hard to complete their daily life tasks. If a person is having
depression he/she will find it difficult to enjoy life. Having no energy to do minor things is also a sign of
depression. From feelings of depression comes the emotion of self harm and suicidal thoughts, purposely
getting physically hurt, thinking there’s nothing good left in life or feeling of worthlessness are some other signs
of depression.

 SYMPTOMS OF MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES

People dealing with mental health usually have trouble eating or sleeping, they stop taking interest in social life,
taking no interest in hobbies or having no interest in personal appearance or talking about suicide are some of
the other symptoms.

 CAUSES OF MENTAL HEALTH

Mental health of a person can be affected by so many things. For example: social media can affect a person’s
mental health. In the present days people spend most of their time on social media posting pictures. From this
many people start to compare their lives with other people which can cause an individual to think they’re
lacking something in their life when in reality things are pretty opposite, as it is said ‘GRASS IS ALWAYS
GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE’ the ‘happy people’ on social media are not so happy in reality they’ve
just got a reputation to keep.

Another reason regarding this issue is ‘comparison’. The kind of comparison that is common in families. It is
quite normal for parents to compare their children with other children this can also cause mental health issues,
instead of appreciating their own child parents often expect their children to be more like their neighbour’s
children. This kind of comparison can kill a child’s creativity and can lead them to think they’re worthless.

 MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS AND WHY IT IS IMPORTANT

We are living in a world where everyone keep asking an individual if they’re having a career or if they’re
earning enough money but no one’s going to ask if a person is happy, above all the things mental health should
be the number one priority. The rate of suicides has increased highly in the country over the years and it is such
a pity that this issue is still not taken seriously. People grouped in the age of 20 to 30 are more likely to get
affected by this. Many people still find it hard to seek psychological help because of the pressure of society.
Mental health awareness is important to prevent increasing rate of suicides, mental health awareness should be
encouraged through out the country. Also there should be public service to spread messages about mental health
as suicides are directly linked to depression which is a preventable psychological condition.
