RCMB-5 JOINS THE 18-DAY CAMPAIGN TO END VAW

Legazpi City- In observance of the 18-day Campaign to End Violence against Women,
the Regional Conciliation and Mediation Board V headed by its Regional Director,
Reynaldo S. Foncardas actively participated and hold a 1-day seminar on Violence
against Women last December 7, 2018 at RCMB-5 Office to promote public awareness
campaign.
The 18-day campaign was observed annually from November 25 to December 12 and
this year it revolves around the theme “VAW-Free Community Starts with Me” which
shift the campaign to positive advocacy as it enjoins everyone to pursue the common
vision of “Vaw-free Community”. The said activity was attended by the personnel of the
RCMB-5 and joined by the officers and members of the Labor and Management
Industrial Peace Advocates (LAMIPA) and the Organization of Grievance Machinery
Advocates (OGMA).
Director Foncardas delivered his opening message saying that the agency will support
the government on its goal to protect human rights of women and its commitment to
address all forms of violence against women. He further said that we must address the
root causes of gender inequality and discrimination. Ms. Jennifer Mae A. Novela,
Administrative Assistant III of the branch tackled the history of Philippine Commission
on Women (PCW) which is the government agency of the Philippines with the intention
of promoting and protecting the rights of the Women in the Philippines.
Ms. Hazel G. Caroche, LEO III of the branch office discussed the Salient Features of
RA 9710 also known as the Magna Carta Women. According to her, this law seeks to
eliminate discrimination through the recognition, protection, fulfillment and promotion of
the rights of Filipino Women. She added that this violence against women is a
manifestation of gender inequality and gender-based discrimination.
“On the occasion of the 18-Day Campaign to End VAW this 2018, we call on everyone
to instill compassion and respect for women, especially for the victims of gender-based
violence. We call on all women to take courage and seek help so that perpetrators
would be held liable, and justice and healing can be attained. Now, is the best time to
recommit ourselves to uphold women’s rights.” according to PCW.
