Looks for evidence that supports information presented

Can identify present assumptions and questions current assumptions

Determines what information is relevant

Adapts more easily to new situations

Has the courage to ask questions

Exhibits a caring attitude towards others

Filters and carefully interprets information - is sensitive to biased information

Acknowledges all perspectives in decision-making

Questions authority and current policies

Is comfortable with complexity and ambiguity

Can adjust to an accelerated pace of change

Is open-minded and skeptical

Can predict and hypothesize

Is self-reliant

Shows increased sensitivity to world problems

Engages in a passive learning style

Exhibits blanket acceptance of new information

Prefers to execute tasks in a routine fashion

Accepts authority unquestionably

Memorizes new information

Is less adaptable in unforeseen situations

Adheres to conformity

Doesn't hypothesize or attempt to predict results

AS TEACHERS AND ROLE MODELS, WE MUST...

Have the confidence to take risks in the classroom...try new approaches to teaching.

Encourage students to challenge us and to question the information we provide.

Transfer the responsibility for learning to the students.

Motivate students to integrate learning from all disciplines.

Help students develop confidence in their reasoning abilities.

Model critical thinking skills on a daily basis...provide examples.


Guide students to the answers... not provide the answers.

Inspire... not intimidate students.

Admit that we don't have all the answers.

Involve students in decision-making in the classroom.

Reframe content in a way that makes it relevant to students.

Take a holistic, interdisciplinary approach to teaching.

Creatively and enthusiastically embrace and introduce critical thinking strategies.
