ABSTRACT

This article is a summary of the literature on monomodal image-based ultrasound-to-

ultrasound registration. The continuous development and innovation in medical imaging
techniques provide clinicians new ways for improved health care services. Despite
improvement in health care services, several issues and challenges are still present in
monomodal image-based ultrasound-to-ultrasound registration. Ultrasound image is a non-
invasive, non-ionizing, low-cost and real-time, which provides a quantitative way of solving
medical problems and uses on humans for scientific work. But, speckle noise degrades fine
details such as edges and contrast resolution of ultrasound images that makes registration
more difficult. Firstly, the paper discusses challenges behind ultrasound image registration
and introduces unique aspects of registration framework for non-rigid (elastic) and rigid
(inelastic) deformations. Secondly, the paper is presenting a novel registration associated
with unique non-zero basis function where each local control point affects the deformed
shape of the curve over range of parameter values.Image registration combines valuable
information from multiple images and finally represents them into a single image. This
registration approach is useful between breast tumour ultrasound images and can help in the
diagnosis of the malignancy for woman. It solves the major issue of image guided surgery as
it provides better visualization and navigation to the surgeons.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We have taken efforts in this project. However, it would not have been possible
without the kind support and help of many individuals and organizations. We would
like to extend my sincere thanks to all of them.

We are highly indebted to the Department of Computer Science for their guidance and
constant supervision as well as for providing necessary information regarding the
project & also for their support in completing the project.

We would like to express our special gratitude and thanks to Prof. Sanjib Saha for
giving us such attention and time.

Our thanks also goes to our institute and higher officials for providing the ambience in
developing the project and people who have willingly helped me out with their
abilities.
