BPS approves PUV Class 2 and Class 3 - Dimensions

The Technical Working Group (TWG) on Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) Modern-
ization (WG 2) composed of members from the academe, consumer groups, in-
dustry association/manufacturers, professional associations, testing institution,
research institution and relevant government agencies, developed the Draft Phil-
ippine National Standard (DPNS) 2126:2017 Public Utility Vehicles Class 2 and
Class 3 – Dimensions. The TWG on PUV submitted the draft standard to the
DTI- BPS for consideration and approval as PNS.
The Philippine National Standard (PNS) was developed to establish a national
standard to provide dimensions for PUV Class 2 and Class 3 in support of the
PUV modernization program of the Department of Transportation (DOTr). The
PNS 2126:2017 aims to improve the safety and comfort of passengers.

CONTENTS: The PUV Classes 2 and 3 follow the United Nations Economic Commission for
Europe (UNECE) Category M2 Class 1 (more than 22 passengers, with stand-
ing) and, Category M2 Class III (more than 22 passengers, all seated) respective-
Featured Standard I 1 ly. The Class 2 and Class 3 vehicles must conform to the minimum floor-to-
ceiling height of 175cm; a maximum 234cm overall width; and, an overall maxi-
