One way that they do so is by leaving their legal employers to go ‘freelance,’ selling their labor

to the highest bidder and living as best they can as irregular migrants in that country. The
capacity to act in that way is enabled by the high demand for domestic labor and the wider
network of relations among compatriot and kin who provide them with assistance. While
effectively drawing on those social networks, migrant domestic workers, nonetheless, continue
to bear the cost of a stigmatized social position among their co-nationals. For other uses,
see Freelance (disambiguation).

A freelancer or freelance worker, is a term commonly used for a person who is self-
employed and is not necessarily committed to a particular employer long-term.
Freelance workers are sometimes represented by a company or a temporary
agency that resells freelance labor to clients; others work independently or use
professional associations or websites to get work.
While the term independent contractor would be used in a higher register of English to
designate the tax and employment classes of this type of worker, the term freelancing is
most common in culture and creative industries and this term specifically motions to
participation therein.[1]
Fields, professions, and industries where freelancing is predominant
include: music, writing, acting, computer programming, web design, graphic
design, translating and illustrating, film and video production and other forms of piece
work which some cultural theorists consider as central to the cognitive-cultural
economy.[2]

A freelance architect is an architect that chooses to represent herself and is not tied to a firm. After
years of education and obtaining proper licensure, many architects do not necessarily want to have their
names lost to the face of a larger firm. Freelance is an option for trained architects who want to be their
own boss of their talents and abilities.

If you're a trained architect who wants to work from home, you might consider freelance architecture from
home as a way to mesh caring for your family and earning income.
1. Know What to Expect

As a licensed freelance architect, expect to work within a specialty, whether it be residential, commercial
buildings or landscape design. You can offer the same services as architects employed by larger
companies, as well as lower-impact counsel. The projects clients need freelance consultation for vary,
from laying out a home garden to designing complex commercial structures.

2. Fulfill the Requirements

To become an architect, freelance or otherwise, you must be registered by your state's Architectural
Registration board. To become registered, you must demonstrate your education (a BA or MA in
architecture), your experience (usually garnered through an intern program) and your ability to pass your
state's architectural exam.

3. Decide to Go Freelance

The advantages of being a freelance architect are many. Complete control over every aspect of your
business is a very compelling motivator. The downside of freelancing is that though you won't be
encumbered by the weight and politics of a large firm, neither will you have its support or recognizable
name. However, you can manage your own hours and, as much as possible, your own wages. You can
incorporate your personal ethics and ideals into your work. Your name may quickly come to be
associated with environmentally-friendly designs or large-impact visuals.

You can run such a business from a home office, reducing the time spent away from your family.

4. Market to What the Customer Wants

Many clients seeking an architect are grateful for the freelance market. It is a desirable option for
companies and individuals seeking general advice who do not want to have to hire a full-time architect for
a full-time project. The freelance market also enables those seeking architectural expertise to have the
widest selection of available talent. They are not constrained by the hefty prices and crowded schedules
of large architectural firms. Many employers prefer the one-on-one contact of a freelancer. A freelancer
architect is likely to be able to give plenty of time and attention to her employer, offering as little or as
much help as the employer needs. Make sure in your advertising and self promotion that your prospective
clients know you are willing to provide this attention.

5. Find Freelance Work

To find freelance work, you can advertise yourself directly, though newspapers, private websites or
Craigslist. But, there are many online sites, such as Gofreelance.com and ifreelance.com, that list
directories of freelance architects. You can post your profiles to be browsed by people in need of your
services. Sites like ifreelance.com list architectural projects awaiting bids. The lister describes what they
are trying to build, along with detail of their architectural needs. You can respond with your resumes,
ideas and bids.

Freelancing is an option if you are an architect pursuing a career that allows you to express your
individuality. Though going freelance will reveal new struggles, the benefits of being your own boss might
far outweigh them.

Architect of record is the architect or architecture firm whose name appears on a building
permit issued for a specific project on which that architect or firm performed services.[1] Building
permits are issued by a government agency with the authority in a certain jurisdiction to regulate
building construction and enforce building codes. Generally, the building contractor submits the
application for the permit to the regulatory authority, along with a building project's drawings and
specifications (called collectively "construction documents").[1] But in some jurisdictions, the
architect is required to submit the construction documents needed to obtain the building
permit.[1] And with some construction projects, more than one building permit is issued. That
occurs when several different architects perform services on discrete parts of a single building
project.[1]More than one architect of record, therefore, would exist in such a case.

Design Architects create plans and gather design requirements for new structures. They
may also be called upon to design alterations or repairs to existing buildings and
structures. Their role is to focus on the style and look of the project while adhering to all
building requirements and codes.

Design Architects work as part of a team of building and Architect professionals. They
often work under the direct supervision of a Senior Architect. According to the Bureau of
Labor Statistics, Architects are expected to see a job increase of 7 percent through
2024. This will add an estimated 7,800 jobs to this sector during this period.

A data outsourcing architecture combining
cryptography and access control

Proceedings of the 2007 ACM workshop on Computer security architecture, 63-69, 2007

Data outsourcing is becoming today a successful solution that allows users and
organizations to exploit external servers for the distribution of resources. Some of the most
challenging issues in such a scenario are the enforcement of authorization policies and the
support of policy updates. Since a common approach for protecting the outsourced data
consists in encrypting the data themselves, a promising approach for solving these issues
is based on the combination of access control with cryptography. This idea is in itself not
new, but the problem of applying it in an outsourced architecture introduces several
challenges. In this paper, we first illustrate the basic principles on which an architecture for
combining access control and cryptography can be built. We then illustrate an approach for
enforcing authorization policies and supporting dynamic authorizations, allowing policy
changes and data updates at a limited cost in terms of bandwidth and computational
power.

The ASEAN Community started when 5Southeast Asian leaders decided to form a union to foster the
bond within their respective nations. This union of Southeast Asian nations was created through the
ASEAN Bangkok Declaration. The countries included in this union are Indonesia, Malaysia, the
Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Over the past years more countries have joined the ASEAN union
including Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.

This union aims to help strengthen and stabilize each country’s economic growth and development.
Basically, the ASEAN union was created to help Southeast Asian countries to develop Economic growth,
Socio-cultural development and Political-Security. All of the plans made by the ASEAN union for the
betterment of each member country are integrated in the ASEAN Economic Blueprint. Supposedly, the
leaders of the ASEAN union have envisioned the completion of their goals by the year 2020 but they
changed it to 2015 instead, to make sure that they can fast track the growth and development of their
countries.

Through the ASEAN integration, member countries support each other in preventing the likes of rampant
piracy, terrorism and drug trafficking. This initiative also aims to foster economic development meaning
more job opportunities, more investors to develop industries, promote social responsibilities in times of
disaster and more opportunities for education.

Philippine architects told to step up to
survive Asean integration
September 24, 2016

Filipino architects are encouraged to level-up and constantly improve their craft as the entry of foreign
professionals, especially from the ASEAN region, is inevitable.
United Architects of the Philippines (UAP-Cebu Chapter) past president Buck Sia is not denying the
fact that the entry of foreign architects to the country has threatened local professionals, however, while
this cannot be stopped, Filipinos have to compete head-on and "level-up."
Increasing their level of skills, experiences, well backed-up by theory and research are just few of the
tools that Filipino architects should do in order for them to go up against the foreign practitioners.

On the other hand, the ASEAN integration also opens up opportunities for local architects as big players
or clientele are coming in, thus constant upgrading of skills, and keeping abreast with global trends are
very important.
Meanwhile, Sia mentioned the outdated educational system for architecture in the Philippines, as one
of the hindrances why most local practitioners are sometimes intimidated by their foreign counterparts.
There are about 38 thousand licensed architects in the Philippines duly registered by the Philippine
Regulations Commission. This number is enough to accommodate the promising real estate and
construction sectors.
But some projects are hiring foreign architects as consultants, and this is already happening in the
Philippines.
Philippine Construction Association (PCA) executive director Manolito P. Madrasto, said the industry
in general has been prepared to face the opportunities and challenges that the integrated ASEAN brings.
Madrasto said that the industry is prepared "on its own", even without the help from the government.
According to Madrasto, the free-flow of professionals within the ASEAN region is a "given" effect,
and that contractors, developers, architects, interior designers, and other players in the booming
construction and real estate industry in Philippines have been preparing for.
Philippine Institute of Interior Designer (PIID-Cebu Chapter), also noted similar development, saying
there are already foreign designers doing projects in the Philippines.

Global Practice & ASEAN Integration

UAP is transforming from a national group into a global entity that bridges cultures and geographies. A
global UAP will serve as a bridge to provide knowledge and understanding of the global practice of
architecture, and will build a professional level of standards through its governance, corporate and social
responsibilities, and continuing education requirements. As more and more global members become
involved, it will raise the practice and business standards of its members, thus creating a more level and
open process for professional practice.
According to Professional Regulatory Board of Architecture Member, Hon. Robert M. Mirafuente, "We
just need to prepare professionally and be globally competitive by consistently educating ourselves".
Architect Mirafuente urged all Filipino architects to apply for the accreditation (ASEAN Architect)
since they are hoping to have “borderless practice” of architects within ASEAN by 2020.
