5) List 3 utilities and 3 separation systems in iCON.
Answers

1. The procedure to use iCON

a. Select property package
b. Adding/editing compound of process
c. Adding material stream
d. Add unit operators (equipment)
e. Specify temperature pressure and composition for each equipment based on
degree of free of the equipment
2. The advantages and disadvantages of iCON include:
a. Advantages:
i. Able to simulate process and calculate mass and energy balance of
process
ii. Save time with calculation of process variables
iii. Save time in finding optimum conditions for process to run
iv. Able to simulate and try out impractical or rarely seen processes due to
having no drawbacks
b. Disadvantages:
i. Expensive license
ii. Not able to simulate all kinds of fluid components and properties
(Bioprocess)
iii. Steep learning curve
iv. No physical product sample (Simulation only)
3. -Simulate the process for integrated project to calculate and verify mass and energy
balance calculation for the process to ensure accuracy and validity of data. Can be
used to compare calculations with manually done calculations.
4. 3 thermodynamics model that can be used
a. Advanced Peng-Robinson
b. Redlich-Kwong
c. Soave Redlich-Kwong
5. The utility and separation system in iCON
a. Utility: Reboiler, evaporator, condenser
b. Separation system: Distillation column, extractor, absorber
