Newsletter of the Indian Association of Structural Engineers
Vol 7, No 6, November 2009
FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Member,
Recently we had approached BIS to extend to us appropriate representation in their technical committees. We
informed them that
• Indian Association of Structural Engineers, IAStructE, is a prominent professional body of Structural
Engineers in India.
• Its members are qualified and competent Structural Engineers.
• It has presence all over India with Centres in UP (Noida), Gujarat (Ahmedabad), Karnataka (Bangalore),
Andhra Pradesh (Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam), Tamil Nadu (Chennai) and West Bengal (Kolkata).
• It is a purely professional learned society which dovetails all its professional activities to the overall
development of the Structural Engineering Profession in India.
• At international level, we have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institution of
Structural Engineers of UK to pursue similar objectives pertaining to the profession of Structural
Engineering in the two countries. We are in the process of signing a similar MoU with sister associations in
Philippine and New Zealand.
I have pleasure in informing you all that BIS responded favourably to our request. We were invited to attend the
