Lord of the Rings

The Lord of the Rings charts the adventures of the inhabitants of Middle Earth, a
complex fictional world with fantastical characters and a complete language crafted by
Tolkien. The movie revolves around the adventure of Frodo, a hobbit, halfling mortal
race from Shire, middle earth as he embarks on a mission with his hobbit best friend
Sam, Gandalf the Grey, a Wizard and a few other hobbits to reach Mount Doom to
destroy ring of power given by his Uncle.

Tolkien’s world takes us through a roller coaster ride full of adventure, love, treachery,
deceit, loss and despair yet somehow

Long ago, twenty rings existed: three for elves, seven for dwarves, nine for men, and
one made by the Dark Lord Sauron, in Mordor, which would rule all the others. Sauron
poured all his evil and his will to dominate into this ring. Once worn the ring made its
bearer invisible. An alliance of elves and humans resisted Sauron’s ring and fought
against Mordor. They won the battle and the ring fell to bottom of sea where it was
discovered by a creature called Gollum, who loses the ring to Bilbo Baggins, uncle of
Frodo. As Bilbo Baggins turns old the ring gains more power and so does Sauron who
is now seeking the ring to regain his power and control over the entire middle earth. The
only way to stop Sauron is to destroy the ring, which can only be destroyed where it was
created i.e. in the Heart of Mount Doom. To help Frodo a fellowship was formed which
included the hobbits Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin; one elf, Legolas; one dwarf, Gimli;
one wizard, Gandalf; and two humans, Aragorn and Boromir. Elf King informs the
fellowship that Sauron is assembling his Army having hordes of Ogres, Trolls, Wargs,
Mages and his special magical “Witch King”.

Sméagol, a hobbit, happily fishing with a friend. The friend falls into the water and
reemerges holding a ring. Sméagol strangles his friend to get the ring. After this,
Sméagol slowly decays into the dirty, green, raw-fish-eating swamp creature Gollum.
Losing the ring drives Gollum insane and he seeks Frodo, as the Eye of Sauron
compels Gollum to obtain the ring. While Sauron brings his formidable army on the
Battlefield of Minas Tirth to stop the fellowship from helping Frodo. The Fellowship with
help from all the races from middle earth barely manages to withstand and hold the
massive Evil army of Sauron, buying time for Frodo to drop the ring in the heart of
Mount Doom. After fighting countless enemies and evading many traps laid by Gollum,
Sam and Frodo manages to reach the top to stop Sauron by dropping the ring in the
mountain. Frodo holds the ring above the volcano, but, like the former king, he cannot
let it go. Instead, he declares the ring his and puts it on. Gollum has also managed to
get to the top of the mountain and attacks Frodo. In the ensuing struggle, Gollum bites
off the finger on which Frodo is wearing the ring and falls, clutching the ring, over a cliff
and into the lava below, while Frodo survives by holding onto the cliff. Sam pulls him up
as the ring disappears into the sea of fire. With the ring destroyed, Sauron’s eye burns
out. The tower of Mordor begins to collapse and then explodes.

Gandalf with the help of Eagles manages to rescue Frodo and Sam. Frodo awakens in
a luxurious bed with Gandalf by his side. The remaining fellowship is there, too. Aragorn
is crowned king at a ceremony in Gondor. Placing the crown on his head. The whole
crowd bows before the four hobbits. The fellowship is declared over. Frodo writes his
adventures in the same manuscript in which Bilbo wrote his. It is called The Lord of the
Rings. He, along with Bilbo and Gandalf, head off with the elves to eternal life. As he
boards the ship that will carry them off, Frodo hands Sam his book. “The last pages are
for you, Sam,” he says. Then the boat sails off. "

The movies strikes a chord with all its audience with the perilous journey of Frodo,
where you are reminded that

“The world is indeed full of peril and in it there are many dark places. But in the end, it's only a
passing thing, this shadow; even darkness must pass”.
