CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION

The present age would never under any circumstance envision in their

most out of this world fantasies about the world, ages previously, when there

were no computers or some other advances. So much we have propelled that

now every data is only a tick away and is in your grasp day in and day out. This

headway was conceivable just with the gadget called the “computer”. The new

generation today is facing the speedy growth of technology. We have witnessed

that people nowadays bestowed most of their time on mobile phones, laptops or

other forms of computer. Computer becomes the most important product of

technology because it becomes so necessary to modern living that it is difficult to

believe that they are a relatively recent invention. We cannot live without

computers, as they are involved in most of the everyday options. It’s really hard

to imagine a life without computers. Through the use of internet, people always

want to go on computer shops or internets café to surf online on social

networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and many others or to

recreate their selves by playing online games so it comes up in building Elevens

Gaming Hub.

Nowadays, internet cafés are really in demand because of the fast growth

and changes of technology that most of the people really embraced. Most of the

professionals and students depend on the internet for projects and research,

social networking sites and others. The number one reason for computer shop for

being in demand is because of the network and online games where most of the

students are inclined. And for that there is a stiff competition in the said business.
9

Having an internet café needs you to have an edge over the other computer

shops in which stability and reliability of your connections/network and

innovativeness of your shop must be considered as your key factors.

Nature of the Business

Elevens Gaming Hub is a retail establishment where people rent the

computers that making the rate as cheap as PHP 1.00 peso for 6 minutes and

PHP 5.00 peso for 30 minutes of renting time. Internet rent at P1.00 peso is really

appealing especially for kids and for those who are in need of short-time use of

the internet. Customers can play with online games, such as PUBG, Dota2,

Rules of Survival, Crossfire, Special Force, Roblox and surf online. The Elevens

Gaming Hub is open 6am till dawn for customers but during schools days

students are not allowed to enter to the Internet Shop. The goal of the business is

to provide the needs of the students, gamers, professionals and others.

Brief History

Elevens Gaming Hub started last 2017, it starts with two computers that

offers online games & surfing. The business goes well but as time goes by it has

System/Network Topology and Design

Figure 3 - Star Topology Network Layout Design

Star Topology

A star topology is a topology for a Local Area Network (LAN) in

which all nodes are individually connected to a central connection point,

like a hub or a switch. A star takes more cable than e.g. a bus, but the

benefit is that if a cable fails, only one node will be brought down.

Advantages of Star Topology

1) As compared to Bus topology it gives far much better

performance, signals don’t necessarily get transmitted to all the
workstations. A sent signal reaches the intended destination after passing
14

through no more than 3-4 devices and 2-3 links. Performance of the
network is dependent on the capacity of central hub.
2) Easy to connect new nodes or devices. In star topology new nodes
can be added easily without affecting rest of the network. Similarly
components can also be removed easily.
3) Centralized management. It helps in monitoring the network.
4) Failure of one node or link doesn’t affect the rest of network. At the
same time its easy to detect the failure and troubleshoot it.

Disadvantages of Star Topology

1) Too much dependency on central device has its own

drawbacks. If it fails whole network goes down.
2) The use of hub, a router or a switch as central device increases
the overall cost of the network.
3) Performance and as well number of nodes which can be added
in such topology is depended on capacity of central device.

CHAPTER 2 NETWORK

Network is a set of connected computers. Computers on a network

are called nodes. The connection between computers can be done via

cabling, most commonly the Ethernet cable, or wirelessly through radio

waves. Connected computers can share resources like, access to the

Internet, printers, file servers, and others. A network is a multipurpose

connection, which allows a single computer to do more.

Types of Network Connection

Computer networks can be broken down historically into topologies,

which is a technique of connecting computers. The most common

topology today is a collapsed ring. This is due to the success of a network

protocol called Ethernet. This protocol, or network language, supports the

Internet, Local Area Network, and Wide Area Networks.

Star Topology

A star network is an implementation of a spoke–hub distribution

paradigm in computer networks. In a star network, every host is connected
to a central hub. In its simplest form, one central hub acts as a conduit to
transmit messages.[1] The star network is one of the most
common computer network topologies.
20

Bus Topology

A bus topology consists of a main run of cable with a terminator at

each end. All nodes like workstations, printers, laptops, servers etc., are
connected to the linear cable. The terminator is used to absorb the signal
when the signal reaches the end, preventing signal bounce. When using
bus topology, when a computer sends out a signal, the signal travels the
cable length in both directions from the sending computer. When the
signal reaches the end of the cable length, it bounces back and returns in
the direction it came from. This is known as signal bounce. Signal bounce
will create problem in the network, because if another signal is sent on the
cable length at the same time, the two signals will collide.

Ring Topology

A ring topology is a network configuration in which device

connections create a circular data path. Each networked device is
connected to two others, like points on a circle. Together, devices in a
ring topology are referred to as a ring network.

In a ring network, packets of data travel from one device to the

next until they reach their destination. Most ring topologies allow packets
to travel only in one direction, called a unidirectional ring network. Others
permit data to move in either direction, called bidirectional.

The major disadvantage of a ring topology is that if any individual

connection in the ring is broken, the entire network is affected.

Ring topologies may be used in either LANs (local area networks)

or WANs(wide area networks). Depending on the type of network
card used in each computer of the ring topology, a coaxial cable or
an RJ-45 network cable is used to connect computers together.
21

Server

A server is a computer used in a network and which provides a

service to a client. Servers usually have more processing power, memory

and storage than client computers. The client is the computer that is not

acting as the server, at least at that point in time, and is requesting

information or a service from the server. Understanding what a server is

involves an understanding of what networks are. When computers are

connected in some physical (or wireless) way and sharing services or

information, this is referred to as a computer network. In a computer

network, there are two or more participants where at least one of them is

acting as a client and one is acting as the server.

Types of Network Servers

File Server

File server is a computer responsible for the central storage and

management of data files so that other computers on the same network

can access the files.

Print Server

Manages the printers that are connected to the network and the printing

of user documents on the network printers.

Communications Server

It handles many common communications functions for the

22

network, such as e-mail, fax, remote access, firewalls or Internet services.

Application Server

Shares network-enabled version of common application software

and eliminates the need for software to be installed on each workstation.

Database Server

It manages common databases for the network, handling all data

storage, database management and request for data.

Domain Server

Authenticates and authorizes computers and users to access

resources within the logical domain.

APPENDICES

A. Glossary

Acknowledgment - something given to thank someone for what they have done.

Assumption - A thing that is accepted as true or as certain to happen, without proof.

Application Server - shares network-enabled version of common application software and eliminates the need for
software to be installed on each workstation.

Bus Topology - is a network setup in which each computer and network device are connected to a single cable or
backbone. If a cable is broken, all computers are connected down the line cannot reach the network. The benefit of
a bus topology is a minimal use of cabling.

Communications Server - is a computing system platform that is used for various network communication
applications and allows vendors to add multiple values at different levels of architecture. A communications server
is the foundation for equipment vendors or suppliers that build the network infrastructure used to deploy
communication systems, such as wireless, broadband or IP-multimedia. The communications and IT industries are
strong supporters of communications servers.
39

Company - an organization that sells goods or services in order to make money

Competence - a sufficiency of means for the necessities and conveniences of life

Computer - is a programmable machine. The two principal characteristics of a computer are: It responds to a
specific set of instructions in a well-defined manner and it can execute a prerecorded list of instructions (a
program).

Curriculum Vitae - is a written overview of a person's experience and other qualifications for a job opportunity.

Diagnostics - This is the process in which you actually monitor the performance of your whole network to make
sure that it is working perfectly. Yes, this means that once you have configured and installed all the devices, you
need to diagnose the system to ensure that they are working properly. In this regard, you need to define a system
which will enable you to access all the required information which will be helpful to you. You will make use of this
information to check whether everything is working fine or there is still any room for improvement. It is a very
integral process in this regard.

Database - is an organized collection of data, generally stored and accessed electronically from a computer
system.

Database Server - Manages common databases for the network, handling all data storage, database management
and request for data.
40

Domain Server - Authenticates and authorizes computers and users to access resources within the logical
domain.

Ethernet - is the traditional technology for connecting wired local area networks (LANs), enabling devices to
communicate with each other via a protocol -- a set of rules or common network language.

Facebook - is a popular free social networking website that allows registered users to create profiles, upload
photos and video, send messages and keep in touch with friends, family and colleagues.

File Server - is a computer responsible for the central storage and management of data files so that other
computers on the same network can access the files.

Firewall - a software used to maintain the security of a private network. Firewalls block unauthorized access to or
from private networks and are often employed to prevent unauthorized Web users or illicit software from gaining
access to private networks connected to the Internet.

Floor Plan - is a drawing to scale, showing a view from above, of the relationships between rooms, spaces, traffic
patterns, and other physical features at one level of a structure.

Gadget - is a small tool such as a machine that has a particular function, but is often thought of as a novelty.
41

Gigabit - is a multiple of the unit bit for digital information or computer storage. The prefix giga (symbol G) is
defined in the International System of Units (SI) as a multiplier of 109 (1 billion, short scale),[1] and therefore

1 gigabit = 109bits = 1000000000bits.

H
History - is the study of the past as it is described in written documents.
Hub - is the central part of a wheel that connects the axle to the wheel itself. Many expressions use the term for a
literal or figurative central structure connecting to a periphery.

I
IP Addressing - The most common type of IP Addresses is IPv4 addresses, which are made up of 32 bits. It is
quite essential for each device on a network to have a separate IP Address. In this regard, the IP addresses can be
assigned to the systems manually as well as automatically. The automatic assigning of IP Addresses is done by
DHCP servers. Each device must have a different IP
Address to make sure that data packages can be sent to their exact destinations. Internet - (contraction of
interconnected network) is the global system of interconnected computer networks that use the Internet protocol
suite (TCP/IP) to link devices worldwide. It is a network of networks that consists of private, public, academic,
business, and government networks of local to global scope, linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless, and
optical networking technologies.

Limitation - is a rule or decision which prevents that thing from growing or extending beyond certain limits.

Locale - geographic place at which there is or was human settlement.

42

Local Area Network - is a group of computers and associated devices that share a common communications line
or wireless link to a server. Typically, a LAN encompasses computers and peripherals connected to a server within
a distinct geographic area such as an office or a commercial establishment.

Layout - the plan or design or arrangement of something laid out.

MAC Filtering - You are aware of the fact that MAC Address is the physical address which is assigned separately
to the NIC of system on the network. MAC addresses usually work with switches in the layer 2. The concept of
MAC filtering allows you to configure your switches in a way that only data packets associated with certain MAC
address are able to pass through the switch. This will increase the security of your network and will also provide
you will better control.

Maximum - the greatest quantity or value attainable or attained

Methodology - a body of methods, rules, and postulates employed by a discipline: a particular procedure or set of
procedures

Minimum - the least or smallest amount or quantity possible, attainable, or required.

NAT - is also referred to as Network Address Translation. Since we are aware of the fact that there are many forms
of IP Addresses which are used in different situations, it is essential to have a service that could translate one form
of IP Address to another form of IP Address. This is what the NAT service does for you. It ensures effective
transmission of data over the networks by translation IP Addresses into different forms. One example can be when
43

data is sent from a private network over the internet; in this case, it is essential to translate the IP Addresses to
enable both networks to work on common grounds. NAT service is generally configured on computers or routers.
The device configured with NAT service comprises of tables, which consist of one-to-one mapping of IP Addresses
of one format on the IP Addresses of the other format. In this way, it is ensured that the routers know the IP
Addresses of the destination devices in the correct format.

Network - is a set of connected computers

Network Server - is a computer designed to act as central repository and help in providing various resources like
hardware access, disk space, printer access, etc,. to other computers in the network.

Nodes - a point in a network or diagram at which lines or pathways intersect or branch.

Optimum - the amount or degree of something that is most favorable to some end

PAT - is the abbreviation of Port Address Translation. Nowadays, it is common for many devices inside the same
network to have the same external address, from example the address of the router they are connected to, it
becomes difficult to discriminate between the devices. In this regard, the Port Address Translation service has
been developed. The main purpose of this service is to assign different port numbers to the devices in on network.
This will ensure that the data packets get to their exact destination. PAT is generally configured on routers, but can
also work on other devices as well. Whenever a data packet passes through the device using PAT, the destination
address on the data packet is changed and it is assigned a particular port number. In this way, the data packets will
44

reach the exact port where their destination is. This is possible because the PAT device consists of a table where it
stores the actual address of each computer in correspondence to its assigned port number.

Pisonet - a term coined from two(2) words "pisong internet" (meaning one(1) peso internet rent)...hence, piso + net
= pisonet. It is an arcade style computer unit used as an internet or gaming vending machine.

Project Rationale - is an argument in favor of implementing the proposed project by your organization. It gives a
detailed explanation of why the project is required in the area

Proposal - is a plan or an idea, often a formal or written one, which is suggested for people to think about and
decide upon.

Remote Access - refers to the ability to access a computer, such as a home computer or an office network
computer, from a remote location. This allows employees to work offsite, such as at home or in another location,
while still having access to a distant computer or network, such as the office network.

Ring Topology – a similar topology is called a ring. In this design, computers are connected via a single cable, but
the end nodes also connected to each other. In this design, the signal circulates through the network until it finds
the intended recipient. If a network node is not configured properly, or it is down temporarily for another reason, the
signal will make a number of attempts to find its destination.

Router - is a device that forwards data packets along networks. A router is connected to at least two networks,
commonly two LANs or WANs or a LAN and its ISP’s networks.

S
45

Scope - is the part of project planning that involves determining and documenting a list of specific project goals,
deliverables, tasks, costs and deadlines.

Server - is a computer that provides data to other computers. It may serve data to systems on a local area network
(LAN) or a wide area network (WAN) over the Internet.

Specification - often refers to a set of documented requirements to be satisfied by a material, design, product, or
service.

Star Topology - is a design of a network where a central node extends a cable to each computer on the network.
On a star network, computers are connected independently to the center of the network. If a cable is broken, the
other computers can operate without problems. A star topology requires a lot of cabling.

System – is a collection of elements or components that are organized for a common purpose.

Switch - is a computer networking device that is used to connect many devices together on a computer. A switch is
considered more advanced than a hub because a switch will send message to device that needs or request it.

Topology - is the schematic description of a network arrangement, connecting various nodes (sender and receiver)
through lines of connection

Unit - a single, complete thing.

46

VTP Configuration - is referred to as VLAN Trunking Protocol. This protocol allows you the facility to configure
your VLAN settings on one switch which can be learned by all other client switches in the network. This switch
performs the role of a server and is fed with all the required information. VTP allows this information and settings to
be inherited by all other switches on the network. This saves you from a good amount of effort which you had to do
otherwise. Any changes to this main server switch will make changes to all the switches in the network .

Wide Area Network - a computer network in which the computers are connected may be far apart, generally
having a radius of half a mile or more.

F. Steps in Installing Cc Boot Server

I. Install and Initialize iSCSI Boot Server with CCBoot

iSCSI Boot Server Installation

Download iSCSI boot software - CCBoot server installation package from

Launch ccbootsetup.exe on the server and keep press the next button to
the end.

Figure 11 - CC BOT INSTALLERS

CCBoot uses the following ports - 67 (DHCP), 69 (TFTP), 3260 (iSCSI),

1000 (Image Upload), 8001 (Service Control). Please open these ports on
the server firewall to make sure client PC can diskless boot successfully.
Since CCBoot v2.1, you also need to open port 66. V2.1 uses port 66 as
DHCP backup.
52

Note: To make sure client PCs can diskless boot well, please shut down
the other DHCP services on the LAN especially the DHCP service in the
router.

Launch CCBoot and you will get the main interface as bellow:

Figure 12 - Main Interface

iSCSI Boot Server Initialization

Demo Environment
Server IP: 192.168.1.10
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DNS Address: 192.168.1.1
IP Mask: 255.255.255.0
DHCP Range: 192.168.1.101-192.168.1.254
53

Open the iSCSI boot software – CC Boot, "Options"->"Options Wizard"

and configure step by step as bellow:

Figure 13 - DHCp Setings

You need to select the correct local IP address as "DHCP Server IP".
Press "Scan DHCP" to check if there are other DHCP services on the
LAN. If yes, shut them down so that client PC can get IP address from
CCBoot DHCP and then diskless boot Windows 7
54

Figure 14 - Client Default Settings

Set "Server IP Address". Normally, it’s the same as "DHCP Server IP".
Set "Write-back File Path" and "Image Save Path" as you want.

"Write-back File Path" is used to store the diskless booted clients’ write-
back data. You’d better use a big volume hard disk as "Write-back File
Path". This disk should be formatted as NTFS and 32K bytes per cluster.
"Image Save Path" is used to store the iSCSI boot images. This disk
should be also formatted as NTFS and 32K bytes per cluster. You’d
better use a fast speed hard disk as "Image Save Path". For example,
use an SAS hard disk.
55

Figure 15 - Server Cacher Settings

Keep default values in "Server Cache Settings".

56

Figure 16 - Insert Settings

Keep default values in "Other Settings". Press the "Finish" button and
confirm the popup dialog box.

II. Upload Win7 System Image for iSCSI Booting

To diskless boot Win 7, we need to create a system image for Win7 and
save it on the CCBoot server.

1. Choose one client PC as master PC used for uploading iSCSI boot

image. Attach a hard disk on the PC.
2. Delete all partitions first. Allocate a small MBR partition about 40G
size and leave the rest unallocated. Format the 40G partition with
NTFS. Install Window 7 into this partition.
3. Install only NIC driver, chips driver and other low level drivers on
this master PC.
57

4. Open the local area connection network properties and configure

as bellow:

Figure 17 - Go to Local Area Connection Status

Click "Properties".
58

Figure 18 - Figure 18 - Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)"

and click "Properties".

Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and click "Properties".

59

Select "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS

server address automatically", then click "OK" to save.

5. On the CCBoot server you will find a client in the client list (Figure
10) that was added by CCBoot automatically when the client PC
got IP address from the CCBoot DHCP service.
60

Figure 19 - CC Boot v2.1

Double click the client to edit and check both "Enable Upload Image" and "Keep
Write-back File" (Figure 11), when press "save" button it will ask you "Are you
sure to delete write-back file?" Just press "No".
61

Figure 20 - CC Bot Client

6. Download CCBoot client installation package

from: http://www.ccboot.com/download.htm. Launch
ccbootsetupclient.exe and keep press the next button to the end.
Then launch CCBoot client and you will see the main interface as
bellow (Figure 12).
62

Figure 21 - Install CC Bot Client

7. Press the "Install CCBoot Client" button. After finished, it will require
reboot system. Reboot the client PC.
8. After reboot, launch CCBootClient again, input the correct "Server
IP address", it should be the IP address of the PC on which CCBoot
server has been located. Input the image file name as you wish in
the "Image File Name". Press the "Upload Image" button to upload
the image to the CCBoot server. Then CCBoot will create an iSCSI
boot image in the server "Image Save Path".

Note: CCBoot supports two types of image file format. It supports

".VMDK" image file format if you are using Windows 2003 as
CCBoot server system. It will support both ".VMDK" and ".VHD"
image file format if you are using Window 7 or Windows 2008. As
you can see in Figure 12, the image file format depends on the file
extension you have set for the "Image File Name". For example, if
you set "Win7.vmdk" as the "Image File Name", it means you will
use ".VMDK" image file format, while if you set "Win7.vhd", it
means you will use ".VHD" image file format.
63

III. iSCSI Boot Windows 7 on LAN

1. On CCBoot server, double click PC101 (Figure 10) to open the

master PC’s properties dialog box, uncheck "Enable Upload Image"
and "Keep Write-back File".
2. Remove the HDD from the master PC, set it firstly boot from LAN
(or network, PXE rom, or some similar settings) in BIOS settings so
that it will start diskless boot (Figure 13).

Figure 22 - Enable Upload Image" and "Keep Write-back File

Figure 23 - Set Computer Name

64

Set the computer name as you wish then press enter key to boot it

Figure 24 - Press Enter to boot

Note: the first time you diskless boot Windows 7, you will get a
startup list just like has not shut down computer normally. That’s
just because we uploaded the iSCSI boot image during Win 7 is
running. Bellow is how to prevent from this situation for future
booting.
1) Select "Start Windows 7 Normally" to boot.
2) When this client PC diskless boot OK, shut it down. On the
CCBoot server, press "Save to Image" in this client's properties.
Now, clients can diskless boot Windows 7 from this image
normally.

3. On CCBoot server, "Options" -> "Settings" -> "Default Client

Settings" -> "Disk Group" -> press the ">>" button, select
65

"Win7.vmdk" as the default boot image in "System Image Selection"

section.
4. Do the same as Step 2 and Step 3 for other diskless PCs with the
same specifications as the master PC to diskless boot Win7 for
them
