Every organization, as soon as it gets to any size (perhaps 1,000 people), begins to feel a need to systematize its
management of human assets. Perhaps the pay scales have got way out of line, with apparently similar-level jobs paying
very different amounts; perhaps there is a feeling that there are a lot of neglected skills in the organization that other
departments could utilize if they were aware that they existed. Perhaps individuals have complained that they don't know
where they stand or what their future is; perhaps the unions have requested standardized benefits and procedures.
Whatever the historical origins, some kind of central organization, normally named a personnel department, is formed to put
some system into the haphazardry. The systems that they adopt are often modelled on the world of production, because
that is the world with the best potential for order and system.

School uniforms are dress codes that are determined by the teaching institutions, consequently students have to follow the
designed code obediently every day. Many people believe that school uniforms should be applied but the others do not.
Uniforms have various advantages for both the family and the child. A united school apparel can relief a financial stress of
the backs of many families. As kids tend to compete and imitate each other, the race of following new trends in fashion or,
providing different attire for every school day is considered a financial burden, not every family can afford it.
Additionally, a uniform creates a sense of equality between all pupils. Young kids tend to judge others according to their
look and what they wear. Uniting their school attire will draw their attention to other criteria and, the only advantage of
one student over another would be personality, academic achievement or being good at sports.
On the other hand, as repetition can lead to boredom, children can get frustrated of wearing same thing to school every
day. Also, it can prevent their first steps of individuality by taking away their right to choose what to wear on their own.
In conclusion, I believe uniforms are not meant to suppress the creativity or freedom of children. It helps redirecting kids’
creativity towards more important things than outer look, and waive financial burden of their families.

The Pearl by John Steinbeck is the retelling of a legend about a fisherman who finds a huge pearl, realizes that the discovery
is destroying his life, and returns the pearl to the sea. It is told in a style so authentic that readers feel they are hearing the
story from one of the villagers who knows all the characters. In spite of its apparent simplicity, however, there are several
levels to appreciate in reading The Pearl.
Some critics have pointed out that the author was committed to ecology, and that this book was real statement about the
danger of creating the imbalance in the natural environment. When the fisherman throws the pearl back into the sea, he is
restoring the natural order. In fact, Steinbeck was a member of expedition to explore marine life along the Gulf of California
when he heard the legend of “the pearl of world”.
Other critics have suggested that Steinbeck’s concern for the condition of the working class was reflected in the
relationships among the characters. The priest becomes interested in the poor fisherman family after the pearl is found
because he hopes to receive a donation that will enable him to improve his church. The doctor who has refused to treat the
fisherman’s baby in the past is solicitous when it becomes known that the fisherman has found a valuable pearl. An even
more direct example of exploitation is the way that the pearl merchants take advantage of the fishermen in the village.
Finally, the work has been interpreted as an allegory of human desires, the vanity of material wealth the struggle between
good and evil. Although the fisherman had dreamed of buying peace and happiness with the pearl, he realizes that these
spiritual gift are beyond price. They cannot be purchased.
Steinbeck himself writes in the introduction, “ If this story is a parable, perhaps everyone takes his own meaning from it and
reads his own life into it.” Precisely this latitude for personal interpretation within universal themes gives The Pearl such
enduring appeal.
1. To non critical readers, the passage has provided an answer to a question ...
Why did Steinbeck decide to choose retelling a legend?
How was the condition of the Indian at that time?
What did happen to the fisherman after having found the pearl?
When did Steinbeck write the story?
2. In conducting their analysis, on reading the passage the critical reader will ask one of the following except....
Why did some critics point out Steinbeck’s commitment to ecology?
Why did Steinbeck write about considering The Pearl as a parable in the introduction ?
Home schooling is an education system which provides child’s main education program at home. Home schooling takes the
place of full-time school attendance and, in the United States and Canada, it usually meets state requirements for
compulsory education. Although home schooling could achieve the objectives of compulsory education, there are some
points that should be noticed from the home schooling.
First, the idea of taking our children’s education on home schooling can be a bit intimidating. Since our country is so large
and the people are from so many different kinds of backgrounds, students need some kind of social glue to make them stick
together and to give them a sense of unity in spite of all the differences. They will not get such a unity when they are in
home schooling. They will get the sense of unity when they are in the compulsory public schools since it is the easiest and
best places to make this glue.
Then, the home schooling may not be able to prepare children to fit into the mass society, which means, among other
things, believing what most people believe and liking what most people like. Or it may not be able to help children to find a
set of values with which they could resist and reject at least many of the values of the mass society.
Recognizing the lack of homeschooling in the case of children’s socialization opportunity, we should afford them abundant
social opportunities. We can have active home school support groups. We can hold ongoing park days, meetings at the zoo,
the science museum, book clubs, history clubs, language clubs, home school scouting troops and many more options to
provide them opportunities to socialize with others.
