concepts and
practicing new skills • Noticing is done with the senses, and is at the physical level
#1
• Understanding is at the level of intelligence

• Acceptance is at the emotional level

Anything that hinders the process of communication at any of these

levels is a barrier to communication

Barriers to communication can be defined as the aspects or conditions

that interfere with effective exchange of ideas or thoughts.

Factors:

Environmental Technological
Organizational Jargons
External Noise Emotions
Distance Personal Interests
Halo Effect Misinterpretation
Fear Stress
Status Chain of command
Trust Issues Negative Self Image

Classification of Barriers:
PHYSICAL BARRIERS
SEMANTIC AND LANGUAGE BARRIERS
SOCIO-PSYCHOLOGICAL BARRIERS
ORGANIZATIONAL BARRIERS
CROSS-CULTURAL BARRIERS

2. Tell them to share when the last time they had a
misunderstanding with someone was and why there was a
communication breakdown. What was the reason? Why is
there a communication breakdown?
1. Finding Communication is the process by which we share and understand
practical information. This can be achieved verbally, visually, non-verbally, and
applications of through writing.
concepts and
skills in daily Communication is considered effective when the message is received
living and understood in the way it was intended.
In today's hectic world, we rely heavily on the sharing of information,
resulting in greater emphasis being placed on having good
communication skills. Good verbal and written communication skills are
essential in order to deliver and receive information quickly and
accurately.

In contrast, poor communication skills can have a negative impact on all

aspects of a person’s life. A poorly delivered message may result in
misunderstanding, frustration and in some cases disaster. How well
information can be transmitted and received is a measure of how good
our communication skills are.

As the saying goes, it’s not what you say but how you say it that counts.
To communicate well is to understand, and be understood.

2. Making People who work together are communicating with each other. If they
generalizations communicate effectively, this will enhance the performance of the
about the group. If communication is poor, the quality of group work will suffer.
lesson The importance of a good communication is demonstrated in the
“Whispering game” (also called “Message Relay”) by illustrating the
breakdown of the communication.

Show the class the video on 90/10 principle of life.
