3.2 Protection by Flexnet license (with or without key)

This protection system of FLUX consists of a license file, and possibly a hardware
key and a software component. The installation of this protection system is
described in the following sections.

We supply separate Flexnet components for 32-bit and 64-bit platforms; they will be
stored in directories which names will end in _win32 or _win64. In the rest of this
document, we will use the single notation _win(arch) to refer to them.
For example:
If you are using a 64-bit platform, and we mention components stored into
directory
C:\Cedrat\FlexnetServer_10.8_win(arch)
you will actually find them into directory
C:\Cedrat\FlexnetServer_10.8_win64

In the case where a hardware key is supplied, before any other installation task, the
key must be connected.

3.2.2.4 Customizing the license file

If you are upgrading FLUX from a previous version 9, you must read the important
note below.

You have to insert the computer name in the license file.

1. Open the license file ("*.dat") in Notepad, for example.

2. Replace the text my_server in the SERVER line (first line) with the
computer name (In the case of 3 redundant servers, you will have to deal
with 3 SERVER lines).
For example, the computer name is cedratdemo:

Example with a parallel port key:

SERVER cedratdemo FLEXID=8-5E700060F0D9
Example with a USB key:
SERVER cedratdemo FLEXID=9-44074EB8
Example without a key:
SERVER cedratdemo 004005537d54

Important note if you are upgrading FLUX from a previous version 9:

In this case, you already own a license file.
On the VENDOR line, you will have to delete the full cedratlmd program name.
Consequently, the resulting line is:
VENDOR cedratlmd

Important:
Any other modification of the license file will invalidate it.

Second case: FLUX is installed on a computer on the network different from

the license server computer:

1- Case where the license server function is managed by only one server

• If the license file is in a shared directory of the license server computer, the
file is accessible from the PC on which you have installed FLUX; just
follow the steps of the previous section.

• If the license file is in a directory which can not be shared:

1. Start up FLUX from Start, Programs, Cedrat, Flux 9.3.1.

a. click on the Tools, Options menus,
b. in the “Options” window, select the License tab,
c. in the License file field, do not enter the license file name,
but use the following syntax:
port@host

The parameter: 'port', is the fourth entry of the SERVER line (first line)
of the license file ; for example, if the SERVER line is:
SERVER cedratdemo 12345789 1723

then 'port' will be set to 1723; if the server name is cedratdemo,

instead of entering a license file name, you will enter:
1723@cedratdemo

if the SERVER line only contains three entries (this happens frequently)
then you will enter only:
@cedratdemo

The installation of the protection system is completed, you can now test FLUX, as
described in sections 3.3 or 3.4.

c. In the License file field, use the following syntax
(separation by a comma):

port1@host1,port2@host2,port3@host3

The 3 first parameters: 'port1', 'port2', 'port3' correspond to the fourth

entry of the 3 first SERVER lines of the license file ; for example, if the
3 first SERVER lines are:

SERVER cedratdemo1 12345789 27001

SERVER cedratdemo2 23457890 27001
SERVER cedratdemo3 34578901 27001

then the parameters ‘port1’, ‘port2’, ‘port3’ will be set to 27001; if the
3 server names are cedratdemo1, cedratdemo2, and
cedratdemo3, you will enter:

27001@cedratdemo1,27001@cedratdemo2,27001@cedratdemo3

The installation of the protection system is completed, you can now test FLUX, as

FLUX® 9.3.1 Updating the Flexnet license configuration

5.2 Network installation (Flexnet license file with server)

5.2.1 Flexlm/Flexnet server upgrade

FLUX 9.3.1 is shipped with the Flexnet v10.8 protection system. Flexnet is the new
commercial name for the legacy system which was called Flexlm.

When upgrading FLUX to version 9.3.1, if you are running a Flexlm server,
upgrading to Flexnet v10.8 is compulsory. Be sure that FLUX is stopped on every
computer, shut down your Flexlm server, then install the Flexnet server according to
the instructions in section 3.2.2.

5.2.2 License file update

This section is to be used if you received a new license file in the following cases:
- FLUX upgrade from a previous version to version 9
- new application purchase, lease,…

1. Check that FLUX is stopped on all client computers.

2. Stop the license server :

a. Open the LMTOOLS window (by default
C:\Cedrat\FlexnetServer_10.8_win(arch)\lmtools.exe),
b. Select the Start/Stop/Reread tab,
c. Click on the Stop Server button.

3. Navigate to the directory containing the license file currently in use.

In general it is placed in the directory
C:\Cedrat\FlexnetServer_10.8_win(arch).
Note:
To find its location:
- In the LMTOOLS window, select the Config Services tab
(if it is not displayed: in the Service/License File tab, select
Configuration using Services)
- The path to the license file is indicated in the Path to the license
file field.

4. Make a backup copy of the current license file.

5. Copy the new license file to the directory

C:\Cedrat\FlexnetServer_10.8_win(arch).

6. Rename the new license file with the same name as the old license file.

7. Open the new license file in Notepad, for example.

8. Replace the text my_server of the SERVER line (first line) with the
computer name (In the case of 3 redundant servers, you will have to deal
with 3 SERVER lines).
For example, the computer name is cedratdemo:

Example with a parallel port key:

SERVER cedratdemo FLEXID = 8-5E700060F0D9
Example with a USB key:
SERVER cedratdemo FLEXID=9-44074EB8
Example without key:
SERVER cedratdemo 004005537d54

Important note if you are upgrading FLUX from a previous version 9:

In this case, you already own a license file.
On the VENDOR line, you will have to delete the full cedratlmd program
name.
Consequently, the resulting line is:
VENDOR cedratlmd

Important:
Any other modification of the license file will invalidate it.

9. Restart the license server:

a. Open the LMTOOLS window (by default
C:\Cedrat\FlexnetServer_10.8_win(arch)\lmtools.exe),
b. Select the Start/Stop/Reread tab,
c. Click on the Start Server button.

7. Installation on a heterogeneous network

(Windows + Unix/Linux)

7.1 Initial installation

In this case, FLUX is installed on a Windows PC and the Flexnet license server is
installed on a Unix/Linux workstation.
The installation and configuration of each program can be accomplished by
following the steps below:

• Install, configure and start the license manager on Unix/Linux

• Install and configure FLUX on the Windows PC

7.1.1 Installing the license manager

Warning:
The instructions below describe the simple installation of a Flexnet server in
order to manage the FLUX software. If you already have one or more
Flexlm/Flexnet servers running on this server and if you wish setting up a
more complex configuration, please refer to the Flexnet v10.8 Licensing User
Guide and to your own procedures if there are any. The Flexnet v10.8
Licensing User Guide is shipped with FLUX 9.3.1. You can contact our
Support Team if you need help with this configuration.

PC INSTALLATION GUIDE ON WINDOWS PAGE 41

Installation on a heterogeneous network (Windows + Unix/Linux) FLUX® 9.3.1

7.1.1.1 Installing the Flexnet server

With FLUX 9.3.1, we ship the Flexnet v10.8 servers for the following operating
systems:
- HP-UX 11.11, HP-UX 11.i ...
- Solaris 7
- RedHat Enterprise Linux 3 for i386 architecture
- RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 for x86_64 architecture

These servers are stored on the "Installation" CD, in directory

"Flexnet_10.8_Unix". They are archived into a tar file, one per OS. This tar
file in turn contains the main directory Flexnet_10.8 in which are located the
server components. You can install this Flexnet_10.8 directory into any
directory in the OS.

In the following examples, we will assume that the Flexnet_10.8 directory has
been stored into directory /usr/local/cedrat.

7.1.1.2 License file

Important note if you are upgrading FLUX from a previous version 9:

In this case, you already own a license file.
On the VENDOR line, you will have to delete the full cedratlmd program
name.
Consequently, the resulting line is:
VENDOR cedratlmd

After having installed the license server files, copy the license file that we supplied
into the directory:
Flexnet_10.8/etc
For example: /usr/local/cedrat/Flexnet_10.8/etc/license.dat

PAGE 42 PC INSTALLATION GUIDE ON WINDOWS

FLUX® 9.3.1 Installation on a heterogeneous network (Windows + Unix/Linux)

7.1.1.3 License file configuration : setting the license server hostname

You must insert the license server hostname into the file
/usr/local/cedrat/Flexlnet_10.8/etc/license.dat. It will replace the second
entry in the SERVER line, whereas the third entry is the identification number you
supplied to us.
You can run commands such as hostname or uname -n to get the server
hostname. For example, if the hostname command yields my_server, the
SERVER line in the license.dat file will look like:
SERVER my_server 6664A7C98

Important:
Any other modification of the license file will invalidate it.

7.1.1.4 Starting the license management

To start the license management, change to directory

/usr/local/cedrat/Flexnet_10.8/etc and run the following command:
nohup ../bin/lmgrd -c license.dat -l lmgrd.log &
To start the license manager automatically every time you reboot the license server,
add the following command to a boot file, for example /etc/rc, giving the full
file names:
nohup /usr/local/cedrat/Flexnet_10.8/bin/lmgrd -c
/users/local/cedrat/Flexnet_10.8/etc/license.dat -l
/users/local/cedrat/Flexnet_10.8/etc/lmgrd.log &

Note:
If you are using Korn-shell, do not insert nohup at the beginning of the line.

The lmgrd.log file contains Flexnet diagnostic messages. You can examine it
to monitor the license server operation.

7.1.2 Installing and configuring FLUX on the Windows PC

• FLUX has to be installed and configured following the instructions of the

installation guide.

• In order to connect FLUX to the license server, use the syntax port@host as
described in section 3.2.2.7.

7.2 Upgrading the license management

With FLUX 9.3.1, the latest version of Flexnet server, version 10.8, is supplied. Its
installation is compulsory.
In order to install and configure Flexnet server 10.8: be sure that FLUX is stopped
on every workstation; then shutdown the Flexlm server, and read section 7.1.1.

Warning:
The instructions describe the simple installation of a Flexnet server in order
to manage the FLUX software. If you already have one or more
Flexlm/Flexnet servers running on this server and if you wish setting up a
more complex configuration, please refer to the Flexnet v10.8 Licensing User
Guide and to your own procedures if there are any. The Flexnet v10.8
