the Earth and the moon in relation to the sun as observed from the Earth.
Develop a model based on observations to describe the repeating pattern of the phases of the moon

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

PowerPoint supports UDL in the following ways:
• Vary the display of information in a flexible format
• Compose in multiple media
• Provides learners with spell checkers, grammar checkers, word prediction software, speech-to text
software, human dictation, and recording
• The students use web applications
• Design activities so that outcomes are authentic, communicate to real audiences, and are purposeful
Lesson idea implementation:
The teacher will introduce the lesson by asking students to write down what they see in the sky at
nighttime. The teacher will then ask the students if they know what the phases of the moon are and how
many there are. The teacher will play a video on the phases of the moon.
After the video has been played the teacher will ask students to turn and talk to a neighbor about their
favorite moon phase and why. The teacher will display PowerPoint on the board. The students will use their
devices and create a movie/book on the phases of the moon. The students can layout their book however
they like as long as it contains all the phases. The students will then record themselves reading the book and
convert it into a movie to share with the class.

Reflective Practice:
To Extend this lesson to a higher LoTi level, the students will pick one phase of the moon that they are
interested in most and research it. The students will then create a presentation and present the phase of the

moon however they would like. The presentations will be uploaded and published to the classroom site for all
students and parents to see.
