Triton router spindle lock will not disengage

Hello All,

I'm having a problem with my Triton 2 1/4 HP router. I can't get the spindle lock to disengage. I have tried
backing off the fine adjustment controller, and have been turing the the twist knob back and forth, but nothing is
working.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions, solutions, help or comment with this problem.

Thank you,
-B

Bargeman,
Had the very same problem recently.
I haven't got any photos but I'll try to expalin it
You'll find that the spindle lock down near the chuck and is a black pin about 9 or 10 mm diameter with a bevel on
it that bears against a matching bevel in the base plate when the router is fully plunged.
That black pin is made of a plastic and has a rounded keyway/slot on it's topside which matches the head of a
small bolt which prevents the pin from extending past the point where the groove stops.

If you take out that little bolt you can withdraw the pin and behind it you'll find a metal spring loaded pin - that's
the actual spindle lock. Be careful it may just spring out and you'll lose it for sure.

Anyway I found that there was a build up of fine dust which stopped the plastic pin from sliding freely and
releasing the spindle lock.
A clean up and a bit of dry lube fixed the problem.

Just watch those springs , there's two of them on that metal pin, one either side of a central skirt

Hope this helps

Ian

The locking pin assembly looks like this:

Try to ensure that the springs go back in the same order.

Dampness can cause the black plastic actuator to swell - try taking it indoors and leaving it somewhere warm
overnight. I don't think I'd use any kind of lube, as it could encourage dust build-up. IME, it usually dampness
that's caused the problem. HTH
