Smooth Evolution from GPON to XG(S)-PON

Huawei gigabit E2E FTTH has a mature industry chain and mature capabilities, and has already seen large-scale commercial use. By
installing the WDM1r device, XG(S)-PON and GPON signals are multiplexed and then transmitted over the same optical distribution network
(ODN). This achieves smooth evolution of technologies and bandwidth, and protects user investments.

Development for Russia's Rostelecom
Needs and Challenges
The live network houses multiple technologies, making technological evolution
unclear.
More than 50% of users have less than 8 Mbit/s bandwidths, which cannot
meet requirements on high-bandwidth services, such as HD videos, that users
demand.
Competitors launched higher-bandwidth services and preference packets,
leading to a decline in Rostelecom's share in the local market.

Solution
GPON evolution was selected and so Huawei's FTTH solution was used. This solution improved the bandwidth from 100 Mbit/s to 1 Gbit/s,
meeting requirements on high bandwidth.
One optical fiber network carries multiple services, including data, voice, video, and Wi-Fi.
Integrated with the operations support system (OSS), implementing E2E fast service deployment.

Promotes high-bandwidth IPTV service, increasing users to 1.2 million and profit by 12.8%.

Huawei XG(S)-PON FTTH Helps Hong

Kong's PCCW Maintain Its Leading Position
Needs and Challenges
The Hong Kong market has steep requirements on bandwidth, with 100M/500M
packages being mainstream and VIP users subscribing to 1G packages.
PCCW occupies 62% of the broadband market. However, PCCW faces fierce
competition from the other 2 carriers. Therefore, the 10G broadband service is
needed to consolidate the leadership.

Solution
The next-generation distributed-architecture OLT and XG(S)-PON were
adopted to improve existing bandwidths, increasing them tenfold.
Huawei's FTTH solution is mature and requires just 6 months to go from solution introduction to scaled commercial use.
XG(S)-PON ONTs provide 10GE and GE ports and dual-band Wi-Fi, ensuring high-bandwidth user experience.

Benefits
The XG(S)-PON FTTH project between PCCW and Huawei won Telecom Asia's Fixed Broadband Project of the Year award.
More than 500,000 FTTH users over the live network can be smoothly upgraded to XG(S)-PON in the future.
