Lesson  Plan:    New  Sight  Words-­‐  be,  they,  your    

Standard:  

RF.K.2.B.  Count,  pronounce,  blend,  and  segment  syllables  in  spoken  words.  

RF.K.3.C.  Read  common  high-­‐frequency  words  by  sight  (e.g.,  the,  of,  to,  you,  she,  my,  

is,  are,  do,  does).    

Objective:  Students  will  be  able  to  recognize  and  sound  out  the  sight  words.  

Student  Friendly  Objective:    

 I  can  read  sight  words.  

Assessment:  

Students  will  answer  questions  individually  and  as  a  class.    

Anticipatory  Set/  Activate  Prior  Knowledge    

Write  the  words  up,  who  and  for  up  on  the  board.  Ask  students  what  words  they  are.    

Input/Modeling:  

Write  be,  they  and  your  up  on  the  board.  “boys  and  girls,  we  will  be  learning  some  

new  words.  Does  anyone  know  what  word  this  is?”-­‐  point  to  be.  Explain  that  

because  the  e  is  alone,  it  makes  the  long  e  sound.  Say  together  three  times.  Put  in  

sentence  then  ask  students  to  give  me  a  sentence.    Point  to  the  word  they  on  the  

board.  Ask  what  word  it  is  then  say  three  times.  Put  in  sentence  then  ask  students  to  

give  me  a  sentence.  Point  to  the  word  your  on  the  board.    Ask  what  word  it  is  then  

repeat  three  times.  Put  in  sentence  then  ask  students  to  give  me  a  sentence.  

Guided  Practice:  

Use  activity  sticks  to  spell  and  practice  the  words.    


Closure:  

Say  words  one  more  time.  

Independent  Practice:    

Sight  word  hopscotch    

Differentiated  Instruction/Accommodations    

Place  students  in  groups  with  some  advanced  learners  and  those  struggling.
