Revised 11/13/2012 1 RS-SQL 4.05.00 Release Notes

Important Notes – Everyone read this first!
If you are installing the software for the first time, please read the Installation chapter. It can be
found on the RS-SQL Documentation CD under: \RS-SQL_Manuals\Admin Manual.doc

Read the following important notes. Start at the top and continue reading until you reach a
version that does not apply to you.

Upgrading from any version

Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, and Internet Explorer 10 is now supported

As of version 4.05.00, RS-SQL is now supported on Windows 8, Windows Server 2012 and IIS 8.0 with
reservations. RSWeb.NET is supported on Internet 7, 8, 9 and 10. Internet Explorer 10 should be
used in Compatibility Mode. RSWeb.NET is automatically configured to use Internet Explorer 10 in
Compatibility Mode. The only known RSWeb.NET problem, in Internet Explorer 10, is that Image
Downloads sometimes cannot be cancelled. We have performed limited testing and will address any
issues that may arise.

Install the latest Microsoft Updates

Make sure your Microsoft Updates are up to date. There are updates that are required for RS-SQL
features to work correctly.

Install the latest SQL Server Service Pack

SQL Server 2005 must be on service pack 4 or higher. SQL Server 2008 must be on service pack 3 or
higher. SQL Server 2008 R2 must be on service pack 1 or higher.

RSWeb.NET is supported on Internet Explorer 7, 8, and 9

As of 4.03.12, RSWeb.NET is supported on Internet Explorer 7, 8, and 9.

The PDT3100 is no longer supported

The PDT3100 can no longer be used with RS-SQL. We first introduced the PDT3100 with RSWIN, in
the early 1990’s. Since then we have continued to support the use of the PDT3100, even though
Symbol/Motorola stopped selling and supporting them many years ago. After 20 years of service,
they deserve a good rest and as of RS-SQL 4.03.12 their use is no longer supported. There is an
extensive range of RSMobile devices from which to choose to replace the PDT3100.

PDT3100 Comm Sessions Will Not Upgrade

If upgrading to version 4.03.12 and above, all existing PDT3100 Comm Sessions (in Operations,
Options\PDT3100) will not upgrade to this version. Process and reconcile all PDT3100 Comm
Sessions before upgrading to this version. You will not be able to process or reconcile them after
upgrading.

Upgrading from version 4.01.231 or lower

Check the SQL Server Database Compatibility Level

Starting with RS-SQL version 4.02.07, the upgrade process requires that the Database Compatibility
Level be set to SQL 2005 or higher. It is recommended that you set the compatibility level of your
RS-SQL database to match the SQL Server version that you are running. Contact your IT Department
for more information. Information on Database Compatibility Levels of SQL Server can be found at
msdn.microsoft.com.

Printing to Bluetooth printers with MC959x devices

If you are upgrading from version 4.01.231 or lower, for MC959X devices only, you will have to again
setup all Bluetooth RSMobile printers.

Major Changes to Imaging

Major changes have been made to the imaging feature. In addition to requesting images be made
from documents, you can now request images of filefolders or containers. To accommodate this new
feature, several changes have been made to both RS-SQL and RSWeb.NET. For those who are
upgrading from 4.00.22 or lower, in any of the Imaging grids, the Action Code ‘DOCIMAGE’ has been
renamed to “IMAGE”. If you had any saved queries which use the DOCIMAGE Action Code, those
queries will need to be re-created and resaved using the new text. For more information on this
feature, read the 4.01 New Features document on the RS-SQL Documentation CD (\New_Docs\).

Revised 11/13/2012 3 RS-SQL 4.05.00 Release Notes

Rename Action Code Called ‘Image’
If you have already set up an Action Code called ‘Image’, you will need to change that Action Code
before upgrading.

The Material List Column has been renamed

If upgrading from 4.00.22 or lower, the ‘Material List’ column is now called ‘RSWeb.NET Material List
Name’. The field name in the add/edit dialog is called “RSWeb.NET Material List”. Previously saved
Column or Sort Formats will still work. Although, Saved Queries will need to be re-created and
resaved using the new text.

Help Contents has been re-sorted

In Help > Contents, the listings are now in the same order as the chapters in the manual.

Redo RSWebNET Virtual Folder Customizations

After upgrading, any customizations made to the RSWeb.NET Virtual Folder (ex: Custom Logout
pages), need to be re-added. The upgrade may have removed the custom settings.

Go to Upgrade Instructions

Upgrading from version 3.07.29 or lower

Windows 2000 is no longer supported

As of 4.00.06, RS-SQL and RSWeb.NET no longer supports Windows 2000. You must upgrade the
operating system of any computers running Windows 2000 before upgrading to 4.00.06 or higher.

SQL Server 2000 is no longer supported

As of 4.00.06, RS-SQL no longer supports SQL Server 2000. SQL Server 2005 or higher is required.
You must use SQL Server 2005 or later in order to upgrade to RS-SQL 4.00.06 or higher.

The RSMobile Scanner Upgrade is different for this release

RSMobile scanners purchased prior to November 1, 2009 require a new Registration ID before they
can be initialized with version 4.00.06 or higher. In previous versions, the Registration ID for
RSMobile scanners consisted of 16 characters. It now requires 32. This change invalidates all existing
Registration ID data in RS-SQL databases, and a new Registration ID needs to be generated.
It is critical that you read the 4.00 New Features document on the RS-SQL Documentation CD
(\Misc_Docs\), before upgrading. If you are using RIO for remote communications or have any
questions about scanner initialization processes, please call your local O’Neil Support desk before
upgrading.

Significant RS-SQL database modifications will be performed

The upgrade to RS-SQL version 4.00.06 and higher contains major alterations to the underlying RS-
SQL database schema. Those responsible for database administration may notice a significant
increase in database and database backup size. If database dependencies have been introduced by
developers other than O’Neil, these may interfere with the upgrade. We have therefore provided an
upgrade “Readiness Check” program to discover those unexpected dependencies. The Readiness
Check program must be run prior to upgrade. Download the latest version of the Readiness Check
program from the Support Downloads area at www.oneilsoft.com. For more information on this
feature, read the 4.00 New Features document on the RS-SQL Documentation CD (\Misc_Docs\).

 You must be prepared to recover this RS-SQL database from a FULL backup in the event of
failure. Since many database objects are temporarily removed or destroyed, failure of this
upgrade will likely result in an unusable RS-SQL database. Before proceeding, verify that a FULL
backup exists and was performed after the last use of RS-SQL.

Revised 11/13/2012 4 RS-SQL 4.05.00 Release Notes

 This upgrade may take a very long time to complete. Duration estimates are difficult given the
varying performance of RS-SQL database servers. A rough estimate of between 5 and 15
minutes per gigabyte is probably reasonable. Before proceeding, please ensure that you have
allotted sufficient time for this upgrade.

 This upgrade will likely increase the size of the RS-SQL database (*.mdf) by between 15% and
20%. If your Database Recovery Model is Full you can also expect large transaction log growth.
It is recommended that you set the Database Recovery Model to Simple prior to upgrading and
return it to Full after the database has been upgraded. Additionally, temporary database
storage is required for the duration of the upgrade. Before proceeding, please ensure that there
is sufficient storage space available to allow both the database and the transaction log to grow
as necessary. Verify that the available disk space on the database server is equal to or greater
than the current size of your database and log files (*.mdf and *.ldf).
NOTE: There is a database size limit of 4GB in SQL 2005/2008 Express. If the database
(*.mdf) grows past this limit during the upgrade, the upgrade will fail and you will need to
restore your database from a backup. Consider upgrading to a full version of SQL Server.

 Because of the significant nature of the database changes being performed, it is recommended
that all indexes be rebuilt upon successful completion of the upgrade. The time and storage
requirements necessary to rebuild indexes varies significantly.
 It is also recommended that a DBCC CHECKDB be run against the database after this upgrade.
We recommend that you periodically run DBCC CHECKDB as part of your regular database
maintenance plan.
IF YOU HAVE ANY CONCERNS ABOUT THE INFORMATION PRESENTED HERE OR ABOUT YOUR READINESS
TO COMPLETE THIS UPGRADE, OR IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE PREPARING FOR THIS UPGRADE, CONTACT
THE O’NEIL SOFTWARE TECHNICAL SUPPORT TEAM BEFORE PROCEEDING.

Go to Upgrade Instructions

Upgrading from version 3.06.25 or lower

As of version 3.07.18, RS-SQL is not compatible with SQL Server 7.0

As of RS-SQL 3.07.18, SQL Server 7.0 no longer functions correctly and the database upgrade fails to
create the tables necessary for RS-SQL to function. Please plan your upgrade to SQL Server 2005 or
above before upgrading.

RSWIN Conversion Program no longer compiled

As of version 3.07, we have no longer compiled the RSWIN Conversion program. To convert from
RSWIN, contact O’Neil Software.

SQL Server 2008 Compatibility

RS-SQL version 3.07.18 and higher is compatible with SQL Server 2008. To setup the Backup Wizard
and load Reporting Services Reports, the Microsoft Backwards Compatibility Components must be
first installed. The Backward Compatibility Components are on the RS-SQL CD.

Create Web Admin Query Groups

Any RSWeb.NET quick searches created for the User Admin grid, in version 3.06 or lower, will need
to be recreated after the upgrade. First, create queries in the Web User Admin Users grid. When
adding these queries to the new Query Group, select the Table Name “Web User Admin” instead of
“User”. Also any lists saved in the User Admin grid in RSWeb.NET will no longer exist after the
upgrade.

Revised 11/13/2012 5 RS-SQL 4.05.00 Release Notes

Changes to Workorder Priority Action Codes
If you have already set up Workorder Priority Actions in version 3.06, you will need to make some
adjustments after upgrading. For more information on this feature, read the 3.07 New Features
document on the RS-SQL Documentation CD (\Misc_Docs\).

The Datawand is no longer supported

We first introduced the Datawand with RSDos, in the early 1980’s. Since then we have continued to
support the use of the Datawand, even though Symbol/Motorola stopped selling and supporting
them many years ago. After 20 years of service, they deserve a good rest and as of RS-SQL 3.07.18
their use is no longer supported. There is an extensive range of RSMobile devices from which to
choose to replace the Datawand.

Calculating Services and Storage by Cubic Foot

Cubic foot storage has changed. Before planning your upgrade read the Unit Volume Billing section
of the 3.06 New Features document on the RS-SQL Documentation CD (\Misc_Docs\). The database
upgrade program will modify current transactions based on entries in the Transaction Cubic Foot
Factor field and in the Account Billing Info screen.
 It is important to have copies of your transactions to refer to after the upgrade. You
can do this by printing base and account transaction reports prior to upgrading. You
can also export transactions from the Transaction grids; make sure you format the
columns to include all values and check the “Include Quantity Breaks” in the export
dialog. However, you will not be importing this information. The file will be for
reference purposes only.
 If you billed cubic foot storage prior, manual adjustments to storage transaction
quantity breaks will be required after upgrading. Additionally there are areas we
recommend you review after upgrading. Please plan your upgrade date accordingly, so
that you have time to complete these tasks prior to invoicing in the upgraded version.
For more information on this feature, please read the Unit Volume Billing sections of the 3.06 New
Features document on the RS-SQL Documentation CD (\Misc_Docs\).

Email Notifications Use Database Mail By Default In SQL Server 2005/2008

For those using SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008, jobs will not deliver Email Notifications until
the proper mail transport (Database Mail or SQL Mail) has been configured. A new system-wide
RSWIN.INI option has been added to specify the use of Database Mail or SQL Mail. Email
Notifications for Monitors and Web Reports, not Invoice PDFs, will now use Database Mail by
default. SQL Mail can still be used in any version of SQL Server; however, the RSWIN.INI setting must
be set appropriately. For more information on this feature, read the 3.05 New Features document
on the RS-SQL Documentation CD (\Misc_Docs\).

Save the modified CustomStyle.css file before upgrading

If the CustomStyle.css for RSWeb.NET has been modified, the upgrade will overwrite this file. The
CustomStyle.css is normally in \Inetpub\wwwroot\RSWebNET\App_Themes\CustomStyle\. To avoid
this important file from being overwritten, save a copy of it elsewhere on your hard drive. In future
upgrades, this file will be preserved, and will not be overwritten.

Revised 11/13/2012 6 RS-SQL 4.05.00 Release Notes

The technology has changed for modifying CustomStyle.css files
After upgrading from 3.04.20 or lower, RSWeb.NET pages may not display normally. If the
CustomStyle.css for RSWeb.NET has been modified, before upgrading from 3.04.20 or lower, please
call O’Neil Software Technical Support.

RS-SQL version 3.05.14 and higher is Vista-ready

64-bit Compatibility
O’Neil has successfully installed RS-SQL on a 64-bit operating system. If installing the RS-SQL
database on 64-bit SQL Server, any 64-bit processor should work. However, to install any of the RS-
SQL components, other than the database, or to use 32-bit SQL Server requires a processor that
supports a 32-bit subsystem. For example, the Xeon processor supports a 32-bit subsystem. The
Itanium processor does not. Before installing on a 64-bit environment please visit our web site for
our latest findings. Go to www.oneilsoft.com, then to Support Services, Download Center.

RSWeb Classic is no longer available

With RS-SQL version 3.05.14 and higher, only RSWeb.NET is available. There is no upgrade for
RSWeb Classic. Therefore, RSWeb Classic will no longer function with RS-SQL version 3.05.14 and
higher.

ActivePDF Server is no longer supported

With RS-SQL version 3.05.14 and higher, Web Reports are only printed using the AmyUni printer
driver. This printer driver is automatically installed with the RS-SQL Client. Web Reports can no
longer be printed using ActivePDF Server.

Revised 11/13/2012 10 RS-SQL 4.05.00 Release Notes

Release Notes
RS-SQL Version 4.05.00
RS-SQL Bug Fixes
1. RSMobile Processing has been improved, to insure that only one process can hold the processing
semaphore at a time.
2. When using Adjust Pricing in Transactions, the Rate did not increase, and the Backup Output File did not
include all the information necessary to create an Import File, in this situation: The Account Transaction
originally had a Discount Base Rate greater than 0; and then, the Discount Base Rate was global edited
back to 0. Now, in this situation, Adjust Pricing will increase the Discount Base Rate, and the Backup
Output File can be used to import Transaction information.
3. Changing the Action Code or the Action Code Description for Transactions now takes effect when
reprinting Invoices.
4. Invoice PDFs can now be viewed on Windows 8.
5. Administration would close abruptly in some situations while saving Report Profiles. This problem has
been fixed.
6. These problems occurred when adding a range of Holidays:
- If the ToDate was set to 12/31/9999, RS-SQL would hang;
- If the Begin Date was today's date, an Integrity Constraint Violation error would be generated; and,
- When a number greater than 9999 was entered into the Year To field, an "Invalid Date Format" error
was generated.
- RS-SQL now checks to make sure the date format is correct in these situations.
7. Saving Invoice PDFs now works on Windows Server 12.
8. The last User that logs into RS-SQL is saved in the User Login dialog.
9. Using Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012, buttons and menus would not be available. This problem
has been fixed.
10. When the Object Code specified in a Transaction is IMAGE and no Transaction Description exists, the
Action Description and Object Description are now printed on the Invoice.
11. When installing the RSSQL PDF Writer, this printer is now configured to use the NULL printer port in all
cases.
12. User Defined Columns sometimes cleared out existing data. This occurred when headers were specified,
but an insufficient quantity of delimiters was supplied in the data. Now, if the data is not present,
existing data is left untouched.
13. The Fields in the Search dialogs sometimes would not display correctly on Windows 8 and Windows
Server 2012. These dialogs now display correctly on these Operating Systems.
14. If a User is over the limit on Images and within 90% of capacity on Containers/Filefolders/Tapes,
warnings now display about the statuses of both the Image and the Item Licensing.
15. For Accounts that have 'Force Authorization' enabled, the fields for the Authorized Users could all be
changed to blank. Now, at least the Last Name field must be populated.
16. If a User has a Workorder open while the RSMobile Processing Service was updating the Workorder, a
message will popup, indicating that the Workorder was updated by the ~Processor User.

Revised 11/13/2012 11 RS-SQL 4.05.00 Release Notes

17. An error was generated when more than one Other Service Action Codes, which did not have associated
Transactions, were posted to Workorders. This problem no longer occurs.
18. The Quantity field in Schedule records for Other Services now allows decimal values.
19. User Account Access and Item Security now control the ability to edit records in the Workorder Detail
grid, and print Workorders and Picklists. These filters also apply when editing Pre-Workorders.
20. In the Misc Activity dialog (Administration > Options > Maintenance > Activity), CLIENT is now available in
the Object Code drop down.
21. Duplicate Items are no longer able to be converted from Web Orders to Workorders.
22. The Schedule Setup dialog has been made more user friendly. The fields can be populated in different
orders, and some restrictions about the order that fields can be cleared have been removed.
23. A problem preventing Connector from updating Items has been fixed.
24. When installing the program to a non-default folder, the Logs folder is now correctly created under the
new non-default folder.
25. Invoices can now be run on Windows 8 and on Windows Server 2012.
26. Filefolder and Tape barcodes can now be reassigned in the Quick Scan feature of Route Ops.
27. When scanning Picklists, the In-Research menu option is now only available when the
TrackWODiscrepancy System-Wide RSWin.INI setting is set to 'YES'.
28. Unrecognized characters in stored data caused disruptions in RSMobile Communications. RSMobile
Communications now takes into account these characters.
29. Base Transactions Reporting Services reports now print results when the User running the reports has
Account Access set to 'none by default'.
30. Blank last pages were output when printing Sub-account Invoice Detail reports. Blank pages are no
longer printed.
31. The Inventory Trend Report can now accommodate for more than 100 Object Codes.
32. The Sub-Account Invoice Detail report can now be run for Draft Invoices without printing “#Error”.
33. The New Storage Detail Report addresses Invoices which the Prorate Setting is set differently on each
Invoice.
34. When running the Finalize Database Move, if Users are not currently Database Users, the Database Users
are created again.
