SCR Catalyst
All SCR catalysts have the same diameter 13.7 in. (349mm)
Catalyst length is dependant on engine type
End parts are rotatable
Flow direction is important

The NOx sensors report the NOx levels to the EEC, the EEC uses
this reading to inject the correct amount of DEF into the exhaust.
The sensor is electrically heated, which is controlled by the EEC.
When the exhaust temperature reaches 400°F (205°C) the EEC will
start injecting DEF into the exhaust.
The catalyst has good function above 482°F (250°C)
The optimal function for the catalyst is 572°F (300°C) to 930°F (500°C)
If the exhaust temperature reaches 1020°F (550°C) the engine will
derate to avoid damages to the system.

The dosing unit opens once per second and the amount of
time that the solenoid valve is open during that second
determines the dosage quantity.
The opening time can vary from 5–95% of 1 second.
The dosing unit also monitors pressure and temperature
and reports this back to the EEC.
When the DEF temperature reaches 18°F (-8°C), the DEF pump
starts to build pressure.
