Overall Goal of Lesson: To showcase the bad in cigarettes and the effects that smoking can have on your health.
Instructional Objectives: By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

Higher Order Questions: What is in cigarettes? Why is smoking addictive? Why do teens start smoking? How does
cigarette advertising target teens? How is smoking harmful?
Student Activities: (Keep in mind the following: Scaffolding, Independent or Cooperative activities, Groupings,
Reading, Writing, Listening, Hands-On/Minds-On, Connections to previous knowledge, etc)
This is a group activity. It helps to build listening skills, research skills, PowerPoint skills, and team work skills.
Modifications/ELL Strategies: Anticipatory Activity for Lesson: Showing the students some of the
Set research sites to use, premade PowerPoint add-ons that PowerPoint has to offer (slide transitions, music, word
template transitions.)
Time Teacher Input/Lesson Activity: The students will be paired into groups of three or four. Groups will

Guided Practice: I will show the class how to add extra slides, how to add transitions, and any extra
10min features to their presentation.
Independent Practice: Students will work amongst their groups quietly to finish their PowerPoint. I
25min will make sure that the name of the person who worked on each slide is at the bottom of the slide to
ensure that everyone is working equally.
3-5min/per Lesson Closure: Students will show their campaign over the projector to the class.

Assessment Methods/Strategies: I will be able to determine if the students understood the reason for
5min the campaign by asking them the higher order questions. I will be asking the higher order questions and
looking for extra detail within the PowerPoint itself.
Resources (supplies, equipment, software, etc.): Computers with PowerPoint software, projector, internet access,
anti-smoking material, health textbooks.
Reflection: Students will learn about cigarettes and the effects that it can have on the body as a teenager and into
adulthood. They will also become familiar with using PowerPoint and researching things on the internet.
