ADDITIONAL FEATURES WITH MEP-660
1. Limitation of Power to 4th notch with Failure of Dust Exhauster Breakers:
Failure of dust exhauster motors clog the filters and Quantity of inlet air is reduced.
Hence the power is limited to 4th notch along with a warning message if the notch
above 4th notch.

2. Limitation of Power to 4th notch with Failure of RBB or Diode HOT:

Failure of RBB result in no cooling to power rectifier. Similarly if amount of cooling to
Rectifier diodes is less due to ay reasons the diodes become HOT. In order to
safeguard the power rectifier the engine power is restricted to 4th notch.

3. Cold Engine based loading:

Soon after cranking, the engine speed is restricted based on the lube oil temperature
till the lube oil temperature is raised up to 60 deg.cent. To improve lubrication.

4. Power De-ration from T3 setting to T4 setting (90 to 95 deg.Cent.)

The engine power is de-rated by 20% of the notch power for every degree raise from
90 deg. Onwards.

5. 8th notch RPM at hottest Temperature

When the Engine temperature reached to T4 setting (95 Deg. Cen.), Engine RPM is
raised to 8th notch automatically by cutting of power for faster cooling of engine.
6.LOW IDLE FEATURE:

When the locomotive is in IDLE for more than 10 minutes, the

engine RPM is reduced to 350 by energising AV and DV for reducing
the fuel oil consumption. This is posssible only with governors
having this option.

7.Built in Auto switching ON Flasher lights with Simplified circuit.

8.Self Load box Testing:

9.Ambient temperature based battery charging.

10.Event recorder

11.Prelubrication

3. The VCD function is automatically isolated in rear loco and the display
shows „VCD in MU‟ message in the 4th line indicating the status of the VCD.
4. otherwise – What happens ?
5. Rear loco does not respond to lead loco signals.
VCD counter:
An incrementing counter by name „VCD Counter‟ is added in the display
screen. This parameter is visible only when the loco is in idle position. The
count is incremented by one as and when the VCD applies penalty brake
indicating that the driver is not alert.

NOTE: Please note the reading of this „VCD Counter‟ on the display unit and
record the same in the driver‟s logbook while taking over charge of the
locomotive.
TO ISOLATE VCD

ADVANTAGES OF MICROPROCESSOR
Switches, Breakers and Operational procedures are same as
conventional locomotive for easy handling to drivers.
1. Very Low intervention by the driver during faults.
Trouble shooting activities by driver is simplified.
2. No reset of GR1, GR2 and GFOLR.
These items are not available. Reset procedure is simplified.
3. No need to maintain Timings specified in yellow zone of Load Meter.
µP automatically reduces the excitation to safe zone, if timings are exceeded.
4. No need to regulate dynamic brake @ high speeds.
µP automatically restricts the Load meter to safe zone, based on the loco speed.
5. No slackness of µP cards on run.
6. More than one traction motor can be isolated. As against single Tr. Motor in
conventional locos.
7. 2S-2P mode of operation in case of any Tr.motor isolation to provide more starting
torque. As against direct parallel mode of operation in conventional loco.
8. Automatic reduction of transition speed in case of any Tr. Motor isolation for quick
acceleration. As against no transition in conventional loco.

9. Automatic power limitation based on TMs isolated and mode of transition to safe
guard Traction motors.

10. Detailed fault indications with audio visual warnings to driver. As against 10 to 15
LED indications.

11. No confusion to driver in case of wheel slip. Only Mechanical wheel slip is
indicated as wheel slip.

12. In case of locked axle, system indicates clearly which wheel is locked. Driver has
to identify the locked axle as conventional locomotive.

13. Detailed LED indications on control unit to identify the wiring / equipment faults.
No such facility in conventional loco.
