of direct flights to Kozhikode in
Kerala. The three times weekly service
from Dubai International (DXB) to Calicut
International Airport (CCJ) in Kozhikode
will start from February 1, 2019 making
flydubai the only Dubai-based carrier to
operate this route.

a new decree limiting 41
job roles to Saudi citizens
in Madinah. The decree, issued
by the Ministry of Labour and So-
cial Development, covers diverse
roles in NGOs, retail, hospitality
and tourism sectors, according
to an Arab News report. The new
ruling takes effect from April 7,
2019, for non-governmental or-
ganisations, and it will be in place
from June 10, 2019, for the hos-
pitality and tourism sectors.
The job types and activities
covered under the decree in-
clude: Light-vehicle driver, order
taker, safety and security officer,
food service employee, tele-
phone operator, data-entry clerk,
administrative clerk, secretary,
general services supervisor,
room service supervisor, main-
tenance supervisor, sales and
marketing supervisor, safety and
security supervisor, tourism pro-
grammes supervisor, front office
supervisor, supervisor of tele-
phone operators, overseer, di-
rector of security and safety, act-
ing director, maintenance man-
stores, construction materials
shops, auto spare parts shops,
carpet shops of all kinds, and
confectionery shops to comply.
The ministry said the decision
was intended “to enable citizens
and women citizens to work and
raise their participation rates in
the private sector”. According to
reports, the move is expected
to affect as many as 1.22-million
expat jobs in the Kingdom.

couraging investment environ-

The decision of the cabinet
follows the decision approved
earlier this year to grant investors
a 10-year residency visa, as well
as to grant residency visas of up
to 10 years for specialists in the
medical, scientific, research and
technical fields, and for scientists
and creative talents of culture
and arts, including their spouses
and children. The decision aims
at maintaining the position of the
UAE as an optimal business en-
vironment.
The decision includes the
terms and conditions for obtain-
ing long-term visas for investors,
entrepreneurs, specialised tal-
ents, researchers in the fields of
science and knowledge, and
outstanding students to attract
talents in all vital sectors of the
national economy. The visa ben-
efits also include the spouse and
the children to ensure a cohe-
sive family and social structure
and to create a stimulating en-
vironment for stability and
growth.

Specialised talents – The
decision also includes provi-
sions for granting a 10-year visa
for specialised talents and re-
searchers in the field of science
and knowledge for doctors, spe-
cialists, scientists, inventors as
well as creative individuals in the
field of culture and art. The
visa’s advantages include the
spouse and the children.
All categories are required
to have a valid employment
contract in a specialised fields
of priority for the UAE, and the
conditions for each category
are defined as follows:

edge Development Inventors;
obtain a patent of value added
to UAE’s economy with the ap-
proval of the Ministry of Econ-

Executives – Owners of
leading, well-known and inter-
nationally-recognised compa-
nies, holders of high academic
achievement, professional ex-
perience, and position (eg, an
engineer in a rare specialty with
a university degree and working
in a private company in the
UAE). The inclusion of this cat-
egory aims at maintaining cur-
rent competencies and attracts
new competencies.
Outstanding students –
The decision also includes pro-
visions for granting a 5-year visa
to outstanding students with a
grade of at least 95 per cent in
public secondary schools in
public and private schools, and
a distinction of at least 3.75 GPA
upon graduation from universi-
ties within and outside the coun-
try. Benefits include families of
the outstanding students.
