Design of purlin

Dead Loads
The spacing of truss = 6
Purlin Spacing = 1.7 m
Weight of sheeting @ = 0.1 kN/m2
Self weight of sheeting per purlin = 0.1 x 1.7
= 0.17 kN/m
Self weight of purlin = 0.127 kN/m
Total Dead load /m = 0.17 + 0.127
= 0.3 kN/m
Live load
Live load = 0.75 kN/m2
Slope = 11.31 degrees
Live load on the truss = 0.75 - [(11.31 - 10) x 2]
= 0.724 kN/m2
Live load on purlin = 0.724 x 1.7
= 1.23 kN/m
Wind load
Design wind pressure = 1.2 kN/m2
Maximum wind coefficient = 1.55
Wind load uplift force = 1.2 x 1.7 x 1.55
= 3.16 kN/m
Net uplift force = 3.16-0.3 x Cos(11.31 x PI()/180)
2.866 kN/m
Load Combination
DL + LL = 0.3 + 1.23
= 1.53 kN/m
Bending Moment
Considering the unsymmetrical bending of the channel section

Mxx = 1.53 x Cos (11.31*PI()/180) x 6 ^ 2 / 8

6.75 kNm
Considering the sag rod 1 in a span 2 Bays
Myy = 1.53 x Sin (11.31 x PI()/180) x (6 / 2) ^ 2 / 8
0.34 kNm
Z required = BM / Permissible bending stress (fbc)
fbc = Mxx / Zxx + Myy / Zyy

Checking the section ISMC 125
Zxx = 66.6 cm3
Zyy = 13.1 cm3

fbc = (6.75 x 1000 / 66.6) + (0.34 x 1000 / 13.1 )

= 127.31 N/mm2
< 165 N/mm2, OK
Check Under uplift condition
Mxx = 2.866 x 6 ^ 2 / 8
= 12.9 kNm
Myy = 0.3 x Sin(11.31 x PI()/180) x (6 / 2 ) ^ 2 / 8
= 0.07
Fbc 12.9 x 1000 / 66.6) + (0.07 x 1000 / 13.1)
= 199.0372 N/mm2
< 1.33 x 165 N/mm2, OK
Therefore provide purlins @ 12.7 kg/m
