Lesson Observation
Lovely smile and approach with the students. They were so excited to work with you which
is just wonderful.
Good idea to take them outside (albeit a little cold) so that it was a little quieter and gives
the students a chance to concentrate.
A good activity, encourages them to move, speak and write. Great to hear students were
excited to play with the activity inside and practice in their own time too.
You asked the students if they knew what to do, only one did. You continued without
explaining and then found yourself explaining the task over and over again to each student.
To make sure they understand the instructions, you can ask them to repeat the steps,
explain to each other, etc.
It was a good idea to get the students to repeat the word.
Good extension from repeating and writing the word to using it in a sentence.
The students were engaged the whole time, well done!
A couple of the students could have written a sentence, good that you thought about and
included this later in the activity.
Good to see you were correcting the student’s grammar, not just in the activity, but when
they were talking to you, it’s all about practice.
Good to see you recognised the need to revise some of the letter formation too.
Assessment collation?

Lesson plan:
With your lesson objectives, ensure they are meeting the curriculum codes. You have
identified some physical activity attributes, but it’s about literacy.
For Students at risk, use initials to de-identify. Good consideration for specific students
though. You can also include extension here too.
Great to see you have included questions to help with your refletion later- I hope these are
helping you!
Good to see you have planned to assess this rotation, ensure you collect and collate this
information for your teacher.

Literacy rotation- has done it each time this week, noticing the differences between the
groups, a good opportunity for a reflection there.
AITSL Standard 1:
Ashley is developing positive relationships with her students and is learning their strengths,
weaknesses and interests. This will help significantly with planning over the term,
particularly being able to draw on their interests when creating activities.
- Compile your list of strengths, weaknesses and interests on your students. This can
help as a cheat sheet for planning.
- Having completed the same activity with other groups of different abilities, reflect
on the way in which students completed the task.

AITSL Standard 2:
Ashley is collecting a range of resources for the learning areas and creating activities to suit
her students. She is continuing to develop her repertoire of teaching strategies and asking
for advice from her mentors to guide her in best practice.
- Continue to build and create your resources.
- As you get to know the students and their interests, you will be able to weave some
of your teaching around their interests.
- Continue to think about how assessment on each lesson can inform the teaching of
the next.

AITSL Standard 3:
Ashley was confident in the knowledge that she needed to reinforce with the students,
taking the opportunity to reinforce speaking and writing skills. She is still developing in
giving the instructions to the students. The language that Ashley used was appropriate, set
at a good pace for the students with a firm but friendly tone.
- Practice different ways of ensuring students know what the instructions are.

AITSL Standard 4:
Ashley was kind and supportive of students during the literacy rotation she ran. She
positioned herself well to be able to see all the students in her care and monitored them
well.
- As you move onto mat sessions, consider what you will use for your “call to
attention”.

AITSL Standard 5:
Ashley is collecting information on student progress from her literacy rotation.
- Continue to collect and collate information on academic progress
- As reports approach have a look at the other attributes (e.g. group work,
participation, etc) that are reported on. How does your mentor assess these
attributes?

AISTL Standard 6 & 7:

Ashley is organised and thoughtful of her students. She has been taking observation notes
and asking questions to improve her practice.
