Our national flower: Find out and write about Lotus with respect to following…

a) Lotus in culture: Different countries across the world as

Nepal, Indonesia, Bhutan, Japan, Malaysia, Korea, etc., accord

importance to lotus in their festivals, traditions, rituals etc.

For example, all Padma awards have symbol of lotus on them.

Find out how lotus makes its place in various cultures through

unique traditions/customs.

b) Lotus inspired architecture: Lotus has inspired many architectural designs. Find some
monuments/buildings that use

lotus as a key element of their architecture.

c) Lotus in food: Different parts of lotus including seeds, leaf

and stem form a part of Indian staple food diet. Share a

recipe of each with their nutritive value.

d) Lotus in fashion: Traditional weaves and embroidery of

India like Kantha, Kasuti, Chamba rumals, Picchvais, etc., employ lotus motif as the main motif. Enlist
embroidery, textiles,

etc. that make use of the flower in their design and how.

e) Lotus in mythology: The flower finds mention in numerous

places in Indian mythology. For instance, Lord Brahma can be

seen holding a lotus, also known as ‘Brahma kamal’; Goddess

Laxmi is seen sitting on a lotus. Explore Indian mythology and

write a short synopsis of wherever the flower finds a mention.

f) Lotus in environment: Find out about the impact of lotus on


the environment, how it aids in maintaining ecological balance.

g) Lotus in literature and arts: Explore, read and write about

famous books and songs about Lotus and try to write your own

or write a book review or art review on the same.
