The problem and it’s Background

Introduction

Being a healthy person is considerably important. Malnutrition and obesity are

essential health issue that the societies and organizations were facing nowadays in
time people of all races sexes , and religion would look at it and consider it to be a
dilemma that is expansive to the charts of the world.

Healthy during adolescence is an important factor in lifestyle and is something that

should be taught at a young age. It is also important for schools to characterize the
health of the students and implement measures aimed at inculating healthy eating
habits as early as possible to develop an ongoing healthy lifestyle. The
development of a healthy lifestyle is important because a healthy body enhances
academic performance. Physical and Psychological changes occurring during this
period usually significally influence their dietry behaviors ( Yannakoulia et al ,
2004 ; chin & mohd nasir 2009 ) Many food preferences are established early and
as teen become more independent , they tend to make more of their own food
choices. Nevertheless, being influenced by a multitude of factors ( Biological,
social , physical , economic , psychosocial , attitudes , beliefs and knowledge about
food ) and changing of lifestyle may affect their dietry choices and eating
behaviors , thereby making them fail to adhere to healthy eating practices (
Warwick Mellveen & Strugnell , 1999; Taylor , Evers & Mekenna , 2005 )

Malnutrition and obesity is evident among both adolescences and younger

generation. Studies have shows that underweight and obesity problems are
significally linked to unhealthy dietary partners, physical inactivity and
misperception of body image ( Goil , 2006 ). There are variety of predictors of
obesity including genetics , physical activity and food consumptions ( Nicklas et al
, 2001 ) . There are other outcomes of food choice and nutrition that also have an
independent effect on health including some types of cancer , Cardiovascular
disease , diabetes , high blood pressure , stroke ,dental carriers , asthma and some
other psychological disorders like depression ( Nicklas et al , 2001 ; Sheperd et al ,
2006 ). Thus , quality of adolescence’s diet has become a major concern today. For
these reasons , selecting a food is an imperative consumer behaviors with may long
term consequences to the individual in the form of health and longevity to the
society in the form of health cost.

In recent years, health organization have implemented a variety of intervensions to

promote healthy eating behaviors of the population, yet they have had limited
impact, which might be attributable to insufficient understanding of dietary habits
and necessary, intervations implemented in accordance with children and
adolescence ages (story, Neumark-Sztainer & French, 2002 shepherd, Reats
Egham 2007)

It is important that adolescence have reliable nutritional information to enable them

to develop healthy dietary practices that would ensure an adequate intake of
nutrents and energy which is critical for their optional growth during this stage of
life. Encouraging the cultivation of healthy eating practices is one of the most 9
seffective ways to influence overall health attitudes and well being of school
community as a whole (Stewart-Brwon, 2006) .

The health and nutrition status of adolescence warrants particular attention since
these young people are the future generation of the country (Ranjana,
Mahomoodally and Ramasawmy, 2013) In light of these findings, the present study
was undertaken to evaluate and understand the eating behaviors of Senior High
School students. This study would be beneficial for designing and evaluating
health and nutrition related attitudes and dietary habits among adolescence.
