ROAD STABILIZATION

Problem
For years, Jalan Parang is used as the main entrance to the
North Port in Pelabuhan Klang. As one of the busiest port in
Pelabuhan Klang, vehicles using the road are mainly heavy
trucks such as trailers, tankers and delivery lorries. With each
passing year, the volume of traffic to and from the North Port
increased, thus roads were damaged due to the constant
battering.

A plan to upgrade and widen the road materialized at the end

of year 2010. A proper planning was done by the design team
to reduce damages to the road. As a result, an introduction to
geogrid application for road stabilization was introduced
during the design stage of the upgrading road works.

Solution
Maccaferri proposed MacGrid WG20i geogrid to suit with
the design team’s purpose and requirement to stabilize the Before construction
road. The function of the geogrid in this application is to
distribute loads evenly and thus help to reduce damages and
cracks to the road surface. The geogrid was laid underneath
a 400mm thick compacted crusher run with binder and
wearing course on top.

The installation of geogrid is important during construction. To

ensure proper laying, Maccaferri team was at site to provide
site assistance and support to the contractor.
