The TOEFL examination is currently administered at test sites around the world in

two different formats: the Paper-Based TOEFL (PBT) and the Internet-Based TOEFL
(iB'I4). Similar language pro- ficiency skills are tested on both formats, but they are
tested in different ways. This course offers practice for both formats of the TOEFL
This book will help you succeed on any TOEFL examination that you take.

For help in preparing your schedule, choose one of the study plans outlined below.
Then, stay on schedule.

Listening exercises. The Listening Section of the TOEFL tests your ability to
understand spoken English as it is heard in North America. This section is included
in the Paper-Based TOEFL and the lnternet-Based TOEFL. The section is different
for each of the TOEFL formats.

Speaking exercises. The Speaking Section of the TOEFL tests your ability to speak
in English about a variety of general and academic topics. The Speaking Section is
not included in the Paper-Based TOEFL. It is included only in the Internet-Based
TOEFL. This section was formerly referred to as the TOEFL Academic Speak- ing
Test (TAST).

Structure exercises. The Structure Section of the TOEFL tests your ability to
recognize standard written English as it is used in North America. The Structure
Section is included in the Paper-Based TOEFL, but it is not included as a separate
section in the Internet-Based TOEFL.

Reading exercises. The Reading Section of the TOEFL tests your ability to
understand written English as it is presented in textbooks and other academic
materials in North America. This section is included in the TOEFL and the Internet-
Based Computer-Based TOEFL. The section is different for each of the TOEFL
formats.

Writing exercises. The Writing Section of the TOEFL tests your ability to write in
English on a variety of general and academic topics. This section is included in the
Paper-Based TOEFL and the Internet-Based TOEFL. The section is different for
each of the TOEFL formats.

Vocabulary exercises. This lesson presents a set of key TOEFL words. Following
the entries, there are 10 matching exercises. At the end, there are 10 TOEFL-like
vocabulary questions that contain most of the words presented in each lesson. All of
these TOEFL-like questions provide an excellent vocabulary review as well as solid
preparation for not only the reading section of the TOEFL, but also for all sections of
the TOEFL.
