CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to Hotel Lourdes, your home in Ilocandia. Experience modern

amenities, warm hospitality and a convenient location at the center of a bustling city.

It’s located at 6A Fonacier Street, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, 2900, Philippines.

This hotel is currently using manual system. When guest make a reservation, all

the reservation details are recorded in a file and those files are stored in a special

cabinet, calculation of bills and inventory items are done manually too. As the current

System is a file based one, management of the hotel has to put much effort on security

to those files. They can easily get damaged by fire, insects or even by a natural disasters.

Keeping files takes much time and wastes much precious man hours. Although we can’t

trust the accuracy of calculation done manually, it’s not a surprise of encountering

problems. We decide to develop their Reservation System as computer based system

and hotel can give quick service for guests.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

How will this system help the management and the staff to have an accurate

service at the same time to monitor the records of the customer? These problems need

to be addressed promptly. Specifically, it should answer the following:

1. What is the existing process of Hotel Reservation System of Hotel Lourdes?

2. What are the problems encountered by the existing process of Hotel Reservation

System of Hotel Lourdes?

3. What are the functions needed to improve the existing process of Hotel

Reservation System of Hotel Lourdes?

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The proposed project specifically aims the following:

1. To determine the existing process of Hotel Reservation System of Hotel Lourdes

2. To determine the problems encountered by the existing process of Hotel

3. To determine the functions needed to improve the existing process of Hotel

Reservation System of Hotel Lourdes

SCOPE AND LIMITATION

This study is conducted to know the reason behind the proponents on how will

their purposed systems will help the Hotel Management. Hotel Reservation System is

fully scalable and designed to provide extensive flexibility and varied choices. Typical

hotel reservation system software reservation solutions currently in place and available

today are technically designed to achieve only one objective function, which is to

connect buyer to seller.

SCOPE

This study mainly focused on providing retailing business application using

computerized system that enables business to track services and aims to provide

accurate and reliable process on every transaction especially in a hotel reservation. This

study looked into a better impact of using technology today on how it affects our daily

lives especially for being the customer. With this studies it can help our beneficiaries to

know the differences of using manual system to a computerized generation today,

prioritize is to prove and to give them the right information.

LIMITATION

Hotel Reservation System is designed to manage all types of hotel bookings,

made directly by guests. Its powerful hotel reservation, marketing and merchandising

features give you the ability to control dynamic room to our allotments, distribute

confidential trade rates, provide varying rates and commissions, multiple seasons,
distributing last minute rates, multicurrency including the euro and so much more. The

hotel reservation system will allow you to dynamically control most of your hotel

reservation without the need for an expensive web designer.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The proposed study is a web-based system that would improve the manual

system transaction of the Hotel Lourdes such as securing the important files and record

the company, the list or profiles of incoming costumer, and for faster and easier way of

storing, updating, retrieving and verifying records and information.

 Hotel - A reservation system will save your guests’ time, because they will not

need to wait for hours until your team confirms their reservation. If one can

book a room by completing a couple of easy steps, then the chances that they

will choose another hotel are pretty low. At the same time, you will not need to

hire a team responsible for continuous email communication with guests.

 Owner - Hotel industry runs on the essentials of proper management at every

stage. All internal teams/departments need to find a cohesive way to work

together to create the ideal experience for the guests. As you plan to expand

your hotel business, the task of manual data organization and maintenance

becomes even more time consuming and cumbersome. This is where an

automated hotel booking system comes to your rescue. Moving to a hotel

 Researchers and Future Researchers - This served as a tool for us students of

DWCL to familiarize them on how to operate an online hotel reservation system.

The developed software was an effective aid for the instructors in teaching the

basic operations of hotel reservation system to their students. It also provided

online security to protect privacy and financial information of clients.

 Proponent – a person who advocates a theory, proposal, or project.

 Database – a structured set of data held in a computer, especially one that is

accessible in various ways.

 Scalable – able to be scaled or climbed.

 Allotments – the amount of something allocated to a particular person.

 Cohesive - fact of forming a united whole, characterized by or causing cohesion.
