Lesson Plan in English- Grade VIII

I. OBJECTIVES:
A. Knowledge: a. Let the students ponder on this question prior to reading the selection: “How
can you show your love to your parents, especially to your mother?”
B. Process: b. Enhance students’ vocabulary by unlocking the meaning of difficult words
through matching type.
c. Read the story, “The Story of the Aged Mother.”
d. Discuss the story with the class.
e. Review about the kinds of pronouns.
C. Understanding: f. Answer assessments about the story read to enrich students’ comprehension.
g. Determine the pronouns in the sentence and identify its kind.
D. Product: h. Students will retell the events in the story in a form of a comic strip. They
must observe the proper use of pronouns.

III. SUBJECT MATTER:
A. Knowledge
Task 1. On a sheet of paper, students will answer the question below in not more than five sentences.
“How can you show your love to your parents especially to your mother?”

Kinds of Pronouns
1. PERSONAL PRONOUNS- denote by its form the speaker, the person spoken to or the person or thing
spoken of.

2. REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS- is the compound form used to indicate that the subject of the verb is also the
receiver of the action
Ex.
The boy enjoyed himself at the party.
I pinched myself to make sure I was not dreaming.

3. INTENSIVE PRONOUNS- is the compound form used to emphasize the doer of the action. It may come
immediately after the subject or at the end of the sentence.
Ex.
Mrs. Reyes herself baked the cake.
You should lock your door yourself.

4. RELATIVE PRONOUNS- are used to connect dependent clauses to main clauses. Forms of who, which
and that are used as relative pronouns.
The forms of who are used to refer to people.
who whoever whomever
whom whose
Example: The little girl who is the red dress is my cousin.
Which and whichever are to refer to things and concepts.
Example: The reason which Jose gave me was unbelievable.
That is used to refer to either persons or things. That may be used instead of who or which
Example: The woman that he saw had a very long hair.

5. DEMONSTRATIVE PRONOUNS-
this- these/ that- those/
This and these are used to point out persons, places, things or concepts from the speaker.
Ex.
This is Mr. Romero
These are my friends.
6. INTERROGATIVE PRONOUNS- are used to ask questions. They are who, whose, whom, what and
which.
Ex.
What are the properties of matter?
Who is that girl in a red dress?
Where do you plan to go this vacation?

7. INDEFINITE PRONOUNS- refer to persons, places or things in general. These pronouns do not have
specific antecedent. Most are singular in meaning.
Examples:
Anyone someone neither Anywhere somewhere little
Anybody somebody either nobody everybody the other
Anything something much No one everyone each
8. POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS- are the personal pronouns in the possessive case. They are used to show
possession or to indicate ownership.

The magazine on the table is hers.
9. RECIPROCAL PRONOUNS- are used to express mutual feelings or relationships between two or more
persons or things.

C. Understanding
Task 4. Directions: Underline the pronouns in the following sentences and then classify each. Write your
answer on the space provided.
