1. PLANNING INFORMATION

A. Effectivity

(1) Airplane: A318/A319/A320/A321

Configuration 1 – Power Plant S/Ns prior to 7531001
(Pre-SPIB CFM02255MW1)
Configuration 2 – Power Plant S/Ns between 7531001 and
10667001 (Post-SPIB CFM02255MW1)

B. Reason

(1) Problem:
Goodrich is introducing a fan case harness system
constructed with the industry standard PEEK overbraid.

(2) Cause:
Product improvement to the fan case harness system.
(3) Background:
The original fan case harnesses constructed with DR25
shrink-sleeve materials will be upgraded with a PEEK
overbraid version. Field accomplishment can be done on a
one for one basis. While the installation routing
methodology remains the same, some clamping changes are
required.
(4) Objective:

Align the fan case harness materials with the core harness
materials and industry standard by introducing a PEEK
overbraid replacement.
(5) Substantiation:
Product improvement harness materials have been
substantiated by laboratory and in-service testing.

C. Description

Operators are to remove and replace the existing harness (DR25

construction materials) with a PEEK overbraid version.
Installation instructions will vary, dependent on the existing
harness clamp configuration installed on the operator aircraft.

K. Interchangeability or Intermixability of Parts

Pre and post service bulletin wire harnesses are

interchangeable, however the clamping configuration must match
the installed harness configuration (i.e. pre-SB RA32071-139 or
post-SB RA32071-139). The 642W9883 harness is the
preferred standard and current production configuration.

3. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS
A. Aircraft – Configuration 1

These instructions are written on the condition that the Power

Plant is installed on the aircraft.
a. Open the fan cowl doors. Refer to A318/A319/A320/A321 CFM56-5B
Aircraft Maintenance Manual, Task 71-13-00-010-040.
b. Locate and remove fan case harness 642W9820-503. Refer to
A318/A319/A320/A321 CFM56-5B Aircraft Maintenance Manual, Task
71-51-43-000-003.
c. Remove and replace the harness attachment clamps as called out
within Figures 1 and 2. Retain and reuse all other harness
attachment clamps. Retain the attachment hardware for
installation.
d. Install the replacement clamps. Ensure all new clamps are
installed in the proper location to support the existing harness
routing. Refer to Table 1.
e. Install the new 642W9883-501 PEEK overbraid harness. Refer to
A318/A319/A320/A321 CFM56-5B Aircraft Maintenance Manual, Task
71-51-43-400-003.
f. Apply RMS 315 Type 3 (tape) onto both harnesses in locations
where the new PEEK overbraid harness may contact nearby or
crossing DR25 harnesses. This will serve as additional chaffing
protection between differing materials.
i. Wrap the tape so that each wrap of tape overlaps the
adjacent wrap by 50 percent.
ii. Extend the tape coverage as far as needed to ensure any
possible contact between a PEEK overbraid harness and DR25
harness will not result in chaffing damage.
iii. Refer to Figures 6, 7, and 8 for sample zones.
g. Close the fan cowl doors. Refer to A318/A319/A320/A321 CFM56-5B
Aircraft Maintenance Manual, Task 71-13-00-410-040.
B. Aircraft – Configuration 2
a. Open the fan cowl doors. Refer to A318/A319/A320/A321 CFM56-5B
Aircraft Maintenance Manual, Task 71-13-00-010-040.
b. Locate and remove fan case harness 642W9820-503. Refer to
A318/A319/A320/A321 CFM56-5B Aircraft Maintenance Manual, Task
71-51-43-000-003.
c. Remove and replace the harness attachment clamps as called out
within Figures 3, 4, and 5. Retain and reuse all other harness
attachment clamps. Retain the attachment hardware for
installation.
