A. INTRODUCTION
Ever since the world has modernised, there has been a steady increase in burglary. The
conventional security structure in the form of sensors and alarms is no longer effective in
mitigating the said issue. Having said that, Artificial Intelligence, a relatively new state of the
art technology, has started revolutionizing the way a security system is expected to be. The
current trend now demands the security system to be intelligent, self-sufficient to take decisions
on its own, think like human and finally act like one.
This project aims at integrating artificial intelligence into the security system comprising of a
basic camera and a processor to make it more robust. The said system would then be able to
work via a three-layered detection approach, viz. Edge detection, Motion perception and Face
recognition. The triplet working in conjunction coupled with dispatching of warning signals
and video feeds would make an otherwise dull and mundane security system a highly intelligent
and interactive one.

B. PROBLEM SPECIFICATION
To integrate Artificial Intelligence into a traditional security system to lend it a triple layered
protection capability in the form of Edge detection, motion perception and facial recognition
coupled with an ability to alert the owner of any potential threat of an intruder via a smartphone
message carrying live feed of the scene.

C. MOTIVATION
AI powered security system is going to be the trend in the coming times and it won’t be long
before it becomes a common occurrence in every household. Starting from its application in a

home, one can extend the reach of this project beyond the local confinements for it to act as a
primary surveillance system in big supermarkets, firms, industries, banks, etc. It could even let
you know if someone unknown has tried taking possession of your car or not. This preliminary
project would serve as a stepping stone for AI to explore all those unexplored areas where it
can dive into thereby making world a safe place to live in.

D. METHOD
The triple layered detection algorithm would be deployed in our intelligent security system as
under:
• Edge detection layer would unveil the primary features of someone who is exposed in
front.
• Motion perception layer, by means of detecting any movement, would respond to any
suspicious activity that might be noted
• And finally Face recognition, incorporated using the Convolutional and Recurrent
Neural Networks technology, would make sure that the camera knows if the intruder
is really a threat or a familiar acquaintance.

E. EXPECTED RESULT
After successfully implementing the AI into our security system, the security service would
reach unimaginable levels, something that might not have been possible at the first place in the
gone by era. The provision of recording of a security footage and its immediate live streaming
sent along with a potential threat signal to your smartphone as and when the system is triggered
would let you determine whether that signal is really an ultimatum to be immediately acted
upon.

F. CONCLUSION
Artificial intelligence, from being a talk of science fiction, is finally close to becoming a reality.
It has started developing into a full-fledged major discipline that is advancing forward at a
breath takingly amazing pace. Given the numerous facets of life AI has started laying its foot
on, it is no surprise that our future homes will be guarded by these intelligent security systems
that are capable of providing a surveillance of unmatchable measure. It is strongly expected
that the world would now finally rest in peace on the warm cushion provided by the so called
AI.
