Dear Elizabeth Forasacco,

Principal Secretary, HR Focal Point UNHCR

First of all, I would like to introduce myself and to thank you for your attention and the
opportunity to apply for this position, as well as the work that the UNHCR have been doing with the
protection and assistance of the population at risk in this country. Based on the information
provided in the terms of reference for the position of Assistant Shelter Officer, I consider that not
only I do fulfill the profile, skills and competencies that the position requires, but also because of
my academic preparation, my personal interests and my teaching and professional activities have
shown a constant and recurrent interest in improving the quality of life of people, working with
unassisted communities and sustainable development.

As a teacher-researcher, I have carried out numerous experiences from the classroom and
from the university extension with information surveys and research in the Venezuelan Guajira, the
Mara municipality and the Añú community at Laguna de Sinamaica’s establishing links and
proposing solutions to the different problems of these regions in areas such as: food, energy,
housing, health, water and education through strategic plans and the formulation of development
projects under the principles of sustainability.

On the other hand, in the last 5 years, I have strengthened my research and education in
the areas of humanitarian missions, emergency management and natural disasters, civic design and
sustainable urban mobility through diploma courses establishing also a working network with some
of civil society actors interested in this topic. In the particular case of sustainable urban
development, I had the opportunity to consolidate my knowledge in GIS software to diagnose and
develop guidelines for a mobility proposal oriented to the implementation of a cycle path network
in Maracaibo city.

Because of what has been described above, it’s clear that throughout my professional
development I have been showing a growing interest in generating an impact on the quality of life
in my region and how as a teacher and as an architect that passion has manifested itself in concrete
proposals and projects that, due to lack of resources, have failed to generate a real and effective
impact in solving the problems they address. Occupying this position I not only hope to intervene
directly on a growing problem in the population of my country, but also to contribute with the
dedication, knowledge and support to achieve the objectives of the organization with an analytical,
current, holistic and organized vision in an integral, objective and creative way.

As an architect, I consider that I stand out in the optimal and efficient management of
resources, as well as in using all the tools at my disposal to achieve the proposed objectives and
exceed the expectations of my clients. As an Assistant Shelter Officer for the UNHCR, I hope to have
a space to develop, grow, learn and not only meet the expectations of the organization, but achieve
tangible results that improve the living conditions of the population to intervene.
Thank you for your attention and please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any
further information.

King regards,

Jorge Aldea
