<Code of Practice on Surface Water Drainage>
The code of practice contains information on the basic
planning, design and procedural requirements for
surface water drainage, and specifies the minimum
engineering requirements for the provision of
functional facilities for surface water drainage.

<Code of Practice for Drainage of Roofs> (SS 525:2006)

The code specifies requirements for the drainage of
surface water from roofs and walls and recommends
methods of designing gutters, gutter outlets and
rainwater downpipes, performance requirements for
siphonic roof systems are outlined as well.

Part 1 Authority Requirement
 Conventional RWDP Size Estimation
Sample: Assume Rain water run-off effective catchment area Ae = 500 m2
The rate of run-off Q in litres/second is given by:
Q = (Ae x I)/3600
I is the design rainfall intensity in mm/hr. I =196.9 mm/hr
Hence Q= (500 x 196.9)/3600 = 27.3 L/s

According to the Table 8

Selected 1 No. of 150 (Diameter)

3.4 Typical Storey RWDP System
 Key Point for Coordination/Consideration
RWDP from above level– Continue to go down @ shaft if no particular require.
Shaft – Not allow RWDP in electrical, TAS, DR and water riser.
Lift Lobby Area – Fall to 1 or 2 sides of lobby within or without scupper drain, then connect
to RWDP @ nearest shaft.
 Balcony Area
– Determine surface rainwater collection type (recommend scupper drain provision).
– Determine outlet location & connection & discharge pipe size.
– Check whether RWDP run through below storey high level or be casted into slab.
If no false ceiling provided @ Balcony, discharge pipes should be cast into slab. (To note slab
thickness & minimize the distance to connection.)
If false ceiling provided @ Balcony, ensure discharge pipe run above ceiling.
 A/C Ledge
– Option 1: Provide shallow scupper drain & free fall to 1 side down from drip. (most practice)
– Option 2: Provide shallow scupper drain & discharge to RWDP @ beside shaft.
For particular case, subject to consultants/client’s requirement & site condition.
