REFLECTIVE WRITING

Before writing the reflection part of this task, I would like to summarize my lesson plan.
First of all, the pupils were in Year 4 and their proficiency level was intermediate. The chosen
topic was Unit 3 which is ‘Yesterday and Today’ under the theme of ‘World of Knowledge’. For
the macro simulated teaching, I had presented a 30-minute lesson that focused on the listening
and speaking skills.

Firstly, I would like to emphasize the aspects that can be improvised throughout my
simulated teaching. I had successfully delivered the lesson where the pupils managed to
achieve the specific objectives being stated in the lesson plan. However, there are few things
that I may improve in order to make the lesson plan become more meaningful.

First and foremost, I have forgotten to introduce new vocabularies to pupils. As a result,
the pupils keep asking me the meaning of those difficult words. Thus I should at least check on
my teaching preparation more than one time. Another aspect that can be improvised is that my
teaching aids were too small in size. Thus, I should make it bigger to make sure those pupils
who sit at the behind of the class will manage to see it. Also, it has not achieved a good quality
teaching aids as I just paste it with a manila card to make sure it would not tear up easily. Not
only that, I can use audio recording at the reading part instead of using my own voice. By doing
this, the student will be able to practice their listening skills as they need to listen attentively in
order to answer the questions. Another aspect is that I should demonstrate the activities before
letting the pupils do it on their own. This is so important to make sure that they fully understand
the instructions given. Last but not least, I should improve my pronunciation to be able to deliver
my lesson effectively.

I received a wealth of positive feedback from everyone who observed my teaching.

Overall, I succeeded in most of the areas I performed poorly in previous lessons that I had
taught. However, there were parts of my teaching I could have done better. From the feedback
sheets, I learned that I seemed confident most of the time and I was organised and prepared.
My instructions were clear enough and I could express it fluently. Not only that, I have a good
delivering of the content thus the pupils could easily understand my instructions. Furthermore, I
looked like a high-spirit teacher where I managed to attract their attention by conducting various
interesting and meaningful activities. Plus, I had successfully finished my lesson on time. I had
managed to arrange my time well due to my good commitment to every sub-section of our
lesson plan. I obeyed every time limit that we had planned so that the class can run smoothly.
If I was given the chance to re-teach my lesson, I would plan more enjoyable
activities and give more time to work on the more meaningful and practical activities. I would
also keep the pupils more on track, and try not to let them trail off and talk about other things
that don't correlate directly to the lesson. Sometimes they would get off track and forget to
concentrate on the new information they were listening.

All in all, having such a chance as examining my classmates’, my lecturer’s

feedback and the video recording helped me a lot to see my weak and strong sides in teaching.
Although I did a whole better than last time, I still learn that I can be better at ensuring that my
students know what I expect from them when we begin the new lesson.
