OVERALL REFLECTION AND SELF APPRAISAL

After all the experiences that I have got from the 60 days of my practice teaching,

I can say that I am now prepared for the real world of being a teacher. These experiences

will be our guide to face new challenges of the new generation of the students nowadays.

We need to become ready and prepared because we are dealing with a diverse class. We

might face different cultures, attitudes and behaviors of the students but all we need to do

is to be fair and equal to them because behind those personalities, there is a hidden story.

We need to consider all of them and treat them equally.

Being a teacher, I learned that effective teaching not only comes after the

contents, assessments and came from the book, it also deals on how much I persevered

and I am determined to catch every student’s attention. During my first days, I can say

that negativity is on my mind because I don’t have any idea on how to face them in the

first place. But later on, I have realized that I can do it better. We are the teachers and we

have the authority. Negativity will always at the beginning but it will change by our

perspective after a while.

During my practice teaching days, I realized that teaching is not always doing how

to teach. Sometimes, it will bring you to a situation that you are needed to be a parent to

the students. Of course as a teacher we need to set limitations to them. We need to help

them to grow up and improve their skills and knowledge because I believed that everyone

has the potentials to do some specific things.

Students are all different especially with their learning styles. We need to consider

everyone’s weaknesses and strengths. We as a teacher needs to see everyone’s effort

especially those students who we always see with their weakness. We need to train them
well because we will be one of the reason of their success. We spend almost their whole

time in schools than to their home. So we need to be like a parent to them as they said

that teacher is the second mother of all.

In terms of the performance of the students, we need to be always fair. I always

used rubrics so that if ever they asked how I came up with that grades, I can show it to

them. When they need us, don’t hesitate to approach them. After all, they will thank us

someday.

In dealing with them academically, I learned how to be strict in deadlines of their

outputs. I did not tolerate being irresponsible so as much as I can I gave them warning so

that they will pass all of the things they need to accomplish on time. Next thing was I

observed that they really enjoyed activities included in the discussion. It hook their

attention and actively participating. Since the curriculum now is outcome-based, I was

only there to guide them and the rest will be their part. Society needs a skillful people

that’s why the role of us teacher is to trained to be a skillfully and professional person.

I didn’t expect that in a short period of time, I can improve in just a quick. With the

help of my cooperating teacher, I learned new things, techniques and strategies in

teaching. As I have said, I am one of the very blessed practice teacher when God gave me

a very supportive and accommodating cooperating teacher. Also with the help of my

students, through the circumstances I faced during my practice teaching serves as a very

unforgettable lesson for me. Despite being negative in the beginning, I managed myself

to become better than before. I am really improved because way back when I am still

inside the training ground, I am always not confident with myself that’s why after this 60

days of training, I know to myself that I really enhance my skills. Although I have the
knowledge from almost 4 years in the campus, being trained outside was very different. I

experienced a major adjustment at first, but .later on already one of an effective teacher

for my students.

In terms of my attitude towards my students, I am strict during class hours but they

can approach me if they need help. I always showed them that when times they failed,

there are many chances that wait. All they need to do is to stand up and fight back. These

failure will help them to become much stronger. I can say that in short period of time, I

will loved my students to point that I am always message them if they need help. I am the

one who insisted to help them if they having hard times with my subject.

When teaching, I always entered the room with a smile on my face so that the flow

of my whole discussion will be smooth especially I always monitored their performances

and output. I can see that they really improved. I am proud to them because they always

do their best to show me all their efforts. They were all creative in different aspects.

Sometimes I get mad to them but it is because I want them to be responsible for every

single task I give. One thing I observed to them was that, they really sweet even if their

age fall in 14 and 15. They let me felt that I am really like a mother to them because

sometimes, they told me the stories of their life. They gave more eagerness to love

teaching and they are the one who inspired me very much.

As a teacher we must 10 books ahead with our students but sometimes, we are not

always teaching but learning also from them. They might have different stories in life but

they here to inspired me. I am hoping that they will still remember all the knowledge I

imparted to them and apply it anywhere they go. As a teacher, it is one fulfilling moment
that one day they will come back to you and thank you for all the learnings they gain

from you.

My 60 days training gave me so much fulfillment to me as a future educator. Now

that I am my way to the real life situation as being a teacher, I can say that this mold me

so much. I will apply all those new skills and knowledge to my soon to be students in the

future. All the challenges that I faced will serve as a guide to me to become more

effective teacher of this generation.
