 A. INTRODUCTION

The Department of Health (DOH) today urges all mothers to practice exclusive
breastfeeding up to six months to reduce child mortality and improve child survival as
part of the High-Five critical public health interventions of providing accessible,
affordable, and quality health care to all, especially the poor.

Healthcare providers, especially those who are engaged in mother-infant care

should be well acquainted and adept to the proper breastfeeding procedure. Public
Hospitals such as ours caters patients from all walks of life, particularly those people
who belongs to the marginalized sector of the society, thus needing more medical
attention due to lack of knowledge in basic procedure of breastfeeding.

One of the targets of this seminar is to gauge the clinical and procedural know-
how of healthcare providers in administering and guiding mothers and new mothers in
the importance and relevance of breastfeeding in the health of new born infants. It
aims to impart more information and increase awareness in the trend and impact of
breastfeeding nowadays.

B. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the 24-hour training, the healthcare provider must be able to:

 Explain the 10 Steps to Successful Breastfeeding

 Be adept and proficient in understanding Breastfeeding
 Assist mothers in initiating breastfeeding during the hospital stay
 Troubleshoot common breastfeeding problems
 Explain and encourage mothers to adapt breastfeeding
