Exactly, this is a microphone. And what do The main purpose of a person who is using
you think is the main purpose of a person a microphone is to make his voice louder. A
who is using a microphone? voice that can be heard by a large group of
people.

Absolutely. Microphone makes one’s voice

louder. It can be used by anyone.(IMAGE
OF GUEST OF SPEAKER).For example,
the guest speaker or speaker in a program,
he totally needs a microphone when he
talks or having a conversation to a large
group of people. And if there is a guest
speaker or speaker in an occasion, there is
also a formal address or discourse that will
be delivered to audience and that is what
we call speech and just like a microphone,
speech has purposes also.

This day, we will discuss the Speeches

according to purpose. But before that, let us
know first the objectives of our lesson.
a. identify the speeches according to
purpose;
b. express own ideas in delivering
speech according to purpose; and
c. deliver speech with standards of
speaking

B. Development of the Lesson

1.Understanding the Topic

“Speeches according to Purpose’

*Informative Speech
Who has an idea about the Informative (Students raise their right hands.)
Speech?
Yes, Clint. In Informative Speech, the speaker gives
informations.
Very good, that is correct. Informative
Speech provides knowledge especially
interesting information. As a speaker, your
aim is to help the audience understand the
topic.

Now, let us go to the next speech according

to purpose, the persuasive speech.

*.Persuasive Speech
When we say “persuade” class, what does Persuade means “to convince”.
it mean?

Absolutely. When we say “persuade”, it .

means “to convince”. The aim of
persuasive speech is to convince the
audience or listeners to change their views
or beliefs.
As a speaker, you can make use of three
modes in persuasion:
a. Pathos-it is the emotional appeal in the
form of pity, sorrow, or compassion.
b. Ethos-it is the credibility of the speaker
as a good person who knows what he
is talking about.
c. Logos-it is the logical appeal whether
the speaker’s argument makes sense.

Who can give me situations wherein we *debates

can use the persuasive speech?

What else? *sales talks

Aha! Another? *legal proceedings

Very good. So those are examples of

persuasive speech.

* Entertaining speech

Entertaining speech is designed to captivate

the attention of the audience and to amuse
them while you, the speaker, deliver your
speech. This speech is also called “special-
occasion speech”.

Do you have any question regarding our None ma’am.

topic?

Are you sure? Yes ma’am.

So again, those are the speeches according

to purpose. The informative speech,
persuasive speech and entertaining speech.
