CHAPTER I
Introduction
It is impossible not to notice that cellphones are everywhere these days, where everyone
seems to have one or more of older or newest model. Without a doubt, these devices have
completely changed the way we live and interact, giving as convenient means of calling, sending
texts messages, reading emails, playing games as well as reading and editing documents. In fact,
leaving home without them would feel like leaving our shoes on. These devices are clearly one
of the phenomenal inventions of this modern age, so what are the consequences of always using
them day in and day out?
Cellphones have unquestionably become fixtures in everyday life for most students.
Cellphones will not only be a part of their everyday lives now and in the future, but will also be
important in studying. Knowing how to use mobile devices effectively is an important skill to
have in modern society. Incorporating mobile technology in classroom is key in preparing the
students for the future. Students using a phone has both positive and negative consequences. One
of the negative effect of it is that it hinder real human interaction. It cannot be denied that
cellphones can do so much these days that some people are even having troubles with tearing
themselves away long enough to be able to reconnect with the real world. Most likely, you will
see them in free time with their eyes and fingers glued to their mobile devices. And instead of
having interactions with the people around, they ignore such opportunities over the things they
love to do in their phones. Because of this, many people believe that the younger generations
would be actually less capable of socializing normally because they would be gotten to have so
little practice that they would be simply not comfortable with chatting with others out in public.
They have become instruments for constant interruptions, since people are always connected
when they have their cellphones with them, it would become more difficult for them to ignore
interruptions. They would be always on their devices receiving calls, chatting, checking out their
friends and listening music, making it distracted in school and lessen their academic performance
because they always focusing at their cellphones and it also provide cheating during examination
and it will also lead to laziness of the students in doing their home works with their own idea
because they will rely on internet by using cellphone. But despite of its disadvantages effect
there are also have advantages effect. Using of cellphone is a learning aid of every students it
helps them on studying. It is also a benefit in expanding your knowledge with the help of
technology. Cellphone can use as a visual aid in class reporting. In Cellphones there’s a lot of
application you can install that will help you to do a school tasks like power point presentation,
encoding you thesis, downloading educational videos and etc.,. Cellphones can be beneficial to
students who would like a quick way to keep track of what they need to do. After all, students
may not always have immediate access to a notepad, so using a cellphone to jot down important
information can be helpful. There are numerous memo apps that can be useful for both teachers
and students in a classroom. Cellphones can assist in providing a modern alternative to standard
teaching and can encourage student participation. Students can also use cellphones to collaborate
with each other and also to connect with children in other school. They can also connect students
to specialists in specific subjects for assistance or advice. Cellphone is a big help to us and a
benefits to every people but also there’s negative effect of. Using of cellphone is depend on the
person on how they handle and manage their time limit in using cellphone because there are
some people who took advantage of it.
This study aims to determine the percentage of the senior high school students in

Feedback
Since the study aimed to determine the percentage of the senior high school
students in lubang integrated schools that are using cellphone on their studying. The result of the
study will be beneficial to all senior high school students, parents, cellphone user, and future
researcher.
Senior High School Students. This study will help them improve their learning skills
and also inform them the importance and limitations of using cellphone.
Parents. This study will be a guideline to enable to know what are the learning aids that
their son/daughter use in studying. And to know what are the usage of cellphone and its effect on
studying.
Cellphone User. This study will inform them the benefits and negative effects of using
of cellphone. And to know the proper consumption of time in using cellphone.
Future Researcher. This study will serve as a guide, reference material, and basis in the
flow of their research especially to those researchers who will conduct related research.
This research objective is to discern the percentage of the senior high school students in
lubang integrated schools that are using cellphone on their studying. It was conducted during the
academic year 2018-2019. In order for the researcher to acquire the facts needed regarding this
matter, they administrate survey questionnaires. This study is limited for 30 respondents
prioritizing senior high school students who is 16-19 years old who are involved in this study
because they are the one who will absolutely help to make this research successful.

According to Argo (2012), the subjects checked their phones 34 times a day. People may
check their phones out of habit or compulsion, but habitually checking can be a way to avoid
interacting with people. Some people can experience withdrawal symptoms typically associated
with substance abuse, such as anxiety, insomnia, and depression, when they are without their
phones and all these are embedded to the course of academic relapse of students who fall into
this category. Surprisingly, these addictions take strong toll on the student without them noticing
it and some of them find it hard to believe that they are addicted to their cellphones. Thus, giving
more credence to the amount of time meted out to these phones than studying.
Choliz (2010), examined out that excessive use of and dependency on the cell phone may
be considered an addictive disorder. In order to address some of the issues attached to cellphones
researchers chose different area of interest and teasing them out. Theory on adolescent
adolescent egocentrism stated that it is a stage of self-absorption where the world is seen only
from one’s own perspective. It was observed that most of the students using the internet enabled
phones get to pay some bills at the end of the month, which is however paid with the little
monthly allowance money given to them by their sponsors or parent for up keep in school and
their studies. Some go as long as to upgrade their phone, by buying the current ones and selling

of the old ones at a giveaway price or “trunking” as the word is widely used, dust to meet up
Naval et al (2004), concluded that these ostentatious mode of using and disposing of
mobile phones especially the internet enabled phones at will, in order to be abreast of current
trends may inhibits the student from focusing on their academics and allowing them to do better
in their studies which is their primary target as students in the secondary schools. Their
academic performance is a fulcrum for their future roles and the roles that will be vested upon
them by their predecessors as the new generations. In an attempt to discuss about the issue of this
topic on mobile phones and its impact on student’s performance, personal observations has been
seen among student using the phones for visiting social platform, such as the facebook, twitter,
2go, my space and instant messengers (yahoo messengers, msn messengers and blackberry
pinging instant messengers) especially the internet enabled ones, during academic periods and
off academic periods indicating that the internet phones have a strong effect on the students.
Falling to mind the audacious gap which has been mended by technology, it should be noted that
the usage of phones are not intended for negative purpose and influence) however, the attitude
and time channeled towards these devices has enslaved the student, thereby making them
addicts,
Local Literature
According to Prensky (2010), as a researcher’s, the most effective use of smart phones is
also one of the most basic: internet access. The internet is inarguably the biggest source of
information that exists, and we have access to it right in the palm of our hand. The internet
allows us to access information through online databases, encyclopedias, textbooks, books, and
more. George Engel and Tim Green write the following: “An important 21st century skill
students should have is the ability to use available resources to locate information. One goal of a
21st century classroom is to transform students from passive to active learners. A step toward
achieving this goal is to have students become researchers. Students need to be able to access
information. Internet access is critical to this skill. Therefore, when computers are not available,
students can use cell phones to gather information via web searches, social networks, or other
resources. This kind of activity trains students to use a resource that most possess to acquire
According to Tyrel (2006) not only do cell phones offer access to the internet, they also
have downloadable applications that serve as educational resources. Some of the more popular
applications that exist on smart phones are graphing and scientific calculators that can be used in
a trigonometry, algebra or statistics, translators that can be used in a foreign language class or
even English class, Maps that can be used in a History class, and Kindle where there are
downloadable books, Note Taker where students can take notes, and Document to Go where
students and teachers alike can transport files that can be used in any class. At Great Neck South
High School, physics and astronomy teacher Andrew Tuomey used apps downloaded onto his
student’s smartphones to look at constellations and study the stars. He said, "In a district like
this, so many kids have them and even if a kid doesn't have it, they can look with the person next
to them. The students love using their phones…”If the kids like to do something and you can

Summary of Findings
In order to know the Percentage of senior high school students in LIS who use cellphone
in studying, we gathered the data through survey questionnaires and the respondents that are
concerned with the study answered. Most of the respondents stated or answer that they are
spending their time using cellphone in 2-4 hours. Respondents also stated that there is
disadvantages and advantages of using cellphone, but despite of that for them cellphone is one of
a tool for a quick response in school or cellphone is big help for them to acquire more knowledge
and information and also they answer that cellphone can enhance their understanding and extend
their learnings. There's a lot of advantages of using cellphone in our daily life but we cannot
deny that we can't avoid the negative effect of using cellphone to us especially when we are
taking advantage of it. Also one of those negative effect or disadvantages of it is that cellphone
As time passed by, students or the teens are attach with the cellphone because in their
opinion, you can easily do things through the use of cellphone. It is a powerful tool because we
can do anything to this. We should know the limitations of each of us in using cellphone.
Conclusions
Cellphones are easily acceptable new trend and it plays a vital role for every individuals.
The majority of people own cell phones nowadays and people rely on them more than ever. Cell
phones have become a part of everyday life and I could not imagine what it would be like having
to live without having a cell phone. Cellphone can make easier for people to keep in
communication with each other no matter where they are. Cell phones are bringing our world
together by keeping the means of communication very close together because people have the
capability of being in contact 24/7 whether its text messages or video chatting. As the cell
phones are advancing and changing it is making the society change as well because everyone is
There are several reasons as why the cellphones have gain such tremendous popularity
amongst people worldwide. Imagine the days when there was no cellphone and people can’t
communicate easily. Cellphone have become essential and this could be either a good or a bad
