3. Setting Considerations
Protection Scheme
Transformer 2 winding differential protection (87T) is applied as main protection to mostly
protect the transformer from internal phase to phase fault. Restricted earth fault (87N)
is available on 150kV and 20kV sides to protect the transformer from internal ground fault.
As main protection, 87T & 87REF shall give immediate tripping.
Inrush current detection is a built-in function inside RET650. This function will be activated
to detect inrush condition and provides blocking signal to the differential protection to avoid
unnecessary tripping due to inrush condition.
Zero sequence current substraction function shall be activated for star (Y) connected
winding in order to eliminate zero sequence current from differential protection measurement
during external ground fault. This is to avoid unnecessary spill current as the zero sequence
current does not exist in the delta (D) connected winding.

protection for differential (87T) and restricted earth fault (87REF) protection.

maximum unbalance load.
Element EFLPTOC is applied as stand-by earth fault protection to protect
the neutral earthing resistor during earth fault.
To avoid unwanted operation of the overcurrent and earth fault protection due to
inrush current during transformer startup, the inrush detection element INRPHAR
is activated to give a blocking signal to the overcurrent & earth fault element when
inrush current is detected.
