A. Preparatory Activities

1. Drill – Reading of a Poem


I Love the Market
Grace U. Rabeles

Today I will visit the old market


Buy some goods and fill my basket
Tomatoes, potatoes, and a kilo of meat
For the soup and stew that I love to eat.

I would care for some apples and bananas, too,


Peanuts, rice and corn, a kilo of them will do
Then a bottle of vinegar and a jar of spices
Cabbage, lettuce, vegetables of all sorts and sizes.

If there will be coins left in my pocket,


I will buy my favorite box of chocolate
Going to the market I simply love to do
I think you’ll love doing it, too.
2. Review– (Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down)
Instruction: Tell if the noun is a count noun or a mass noun. Show if it is a count noun and
if it is a mass noun.

3. Motivation– “ Guessing the Picture ”


Instruction: Guess what is in the picture.

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
Say: Today, we are going to learn about quantifiers/counters use for the mass nouns.
First, follow and listen as I read the paragraph. Then, you will repeat after me. And then,
you will read the paragraph alone. Take note of the mass nouns and the counters/quantifiers being
used.
(Refer to English LM page 43, Read and Learn).

After reading the paragraph, ask the pupils to write the nouns mentioned in the paragraph read and
the quantifier/counters used.

Unlock :
Quantifiers or counters are expressions of quantity. We use quantifiers to tell us how much or how
little the mass nouns are.

2. Group Activity – Differentiated Group Activity
(Distribute Task Card to every group)
I – Connect the appropriate quantifier or counter in Column A to the mass noun in Column B.
II – Choose the correct counter or quantifier for the mass nouns from the box to complete the
phrases.
III – Complete the lines of the poem with the appropriate counter or quantifier. Choose the
quantifier from the box.

3. Reporting & correcting each Group’s answers

a. How were you able to finish the task given to your group? Did you cooperate with each
other? How?
b. Is cooperation important? Why?
c. What do you think will happen if there is no cooperation among group members?

Instruction:
a. Pupils will be group into two groups.
b. Each group will be given a set of A, B, and C letters.
c. As the teacher reads the question, representative of each group will listen and on the go
signal will raise the letter of their answer to the question.
d. One representative from each group will answer in every question.
e. The contestant/s who can give the right answer, will step up the stair.
f. Every one correct answer corresponds to one step higher.
g. The group who can reach the top of the stairs first wins.
