ABSTRACT

The research study entitled: STEM Students Broken Romantic Relationship:

Feelings and Academic Effects. The researcher aimed to determine the feelings and

effects of broken romantic relationship to academic performance of grade 11 STEM

students of Notre Dame of Marbel University. The study was conducted to determine

the effects of broken romantic relationship between academic performance and

motivation as well as association with anxiety, time management in studying. The

researchers investigated using in depth interview method by the aid of a researcher

made questionnaire. The themes that emerged about the effects of a broken romantic

relationship to the students as well as their academic. The researchers found out that

there are negative emotions after break up, particularly feeling sad, confused, and

scared. The respondents experienced depression, loss of self-esteem and rumination,

also they cannot focus in their studies having broken romantic relationship. The

researchers concluded that the broken romantic relationship of the respondents have

most significant effect to their academic performance. The shared statements and

experiences given to us by the respondents helped us to be more aware of the effects

of a broken romantic relationship, especially for the STEM Students. It gives us more

knowledge that having a broken romantic relationship as a student is a great struggle.
