Globalization of Culture Through Media

i. I do not understand and know what the articled talked about “the fulfillment
of Marshal McLuhan’s prophecy of the Global Village.”
ii. I find it hard to understand about media influence having a great effect on
audiences but debate about it subside and the solution to its problem is
never found.
iii. I don’t understand the use of interdisciplinary literature in providing solution in
giving us alternatives to cultural imperialism.

i. The mass media has a not so important role in globalization and believed
that it only delivers news across the globe.

Now, I understand that our connection through media can also influence us
and bring globalization even to the youngest minds on our society. With this, it
can also bring cultural imperialism especially those countries which are
powerful and are famous across the globe which can create trend as they
wish.

ii. I never thought that even in medias like news can also be biased based of
the country which they support. As always, it is on the favor of superior
countries.

This is still true because we cannot produce the news and medias that
countries do produced. A debate was held to reconcile the problems
regarding the flow of media, and it was launched by UNESCO. But even after
the talk, the problem was never solved because there is a lot of
disagreements between the global north and global south which led to the
debate becoming unpopularize.

iii. Globalization could be the new form of cultural imperialism

Because of globalization through the use of media, national unity among

nation-states weakens because the influence of the trend across powerful
nations continues to dominate not only in developing countries but within
powerful countries as well. With globalization, cultural imperialism has
become more and more evident especially to us Filipinos because we like to
always be on the trend.

i. How does hybridization happen especially to Filipinos like us? Do we like to
copy everything the western make or is it the product of our productive
imagination?
 ii. In globalization through media, which is more evident? Hybridization or
homogenization?
iii. I need more explanation on how globalization can be the new cultural
imperialism.
